New owner of a 1270!

Well-known member
I made a trade with WV62 on it he treated me right on the trade I traded him my CZ3D for this 1270. I have enjoyed talking to him through out the whole trade negotiation. So tell what you guys can on this I've read the field test and they left me kinda confused as far as all the different setups on it. I plan on relic hunting and maybe occasionally coin shooting with it. I have used a 1266x in the past and it was by far the best beep and dig detector I ever used! It got really good depth and was very simple to operate. I will never hunt in all metal with it I am just not into hearing any and all targets that pass below my coil. So I figure I will be using normal discrimination mode and iron mode regularly. If you guys can tell me what settings you use on relics and coins I would be grateful.

88junior,

Thanks for the kind words, I feel the same here about the trade, enjoyed the calls.
I am no a relic hunter, but one coin hunting setup I like is just run max disc the only coins you will miss is the nickels, the 1270 does not lose depth at the higher disc settings. I am sure others out there have more tips they will pass on.

Enjoy your 1270 and good luck,

Ron in WV

Congrats on the trade, WV62 is a stand up guy wouldn't screw you. Got a lot of tips for that detector still one of my goto machines, Unbelievable depth,

High,
To tell you the truth, the 1270 is a heavy, quite unbalanced pig to swing for hours on end - espacially with the 10,5 coil affixed.
You really should, in that case, consider to hip or chest mount the control box.
There are some good examples on how this is accomplished on this same sub-forum.
Other than that, I would also recommend investing in good rechargable 9 Volt cells with a fast charger to replenish them.
Buy 5 of them - 2 for the 1270 to operate it - 2 as spares and one for the GarrettProPointer.
Should you not own latter, this would be your best investment ever to make, as soon as you have some cash to spare.
I can not emphasize enough, how much this ProPointer is worth when it comes to quick target location in a dug hole.
Wish you a lot of fum with your 1270
Greetings

I got a propointer and they are great!

Weight of the 1270 = 3.6 lbs
CZ-3D = 3.7 lbs

Light weight compared to what you had.:rofl:

That's what I was thinking and from what I read the 1270 uses a cz control housing and I have always wished they mounted the cz's on a 1266x or 1270 shaft as far as the 10 1/2" coil I figured when using it would probably be pretty well balanced even though I know it will be a little heavier. I have cz-5 I mainly use when coin hunting and plan on using the 1270 when relic hunting and also as a backup machine. I will probably end up eventually buying a hot head 12" coil or one one the excelarator eq2 12" coils to help find those really deep Civil War Relics!!

V3i= 4.5lbs
E-Trac= 4.8lbs
Tejon= 3.0lbs
1266= 3.9lbs
Coinstrike= 3.5lbs
6000/Di Pro-sl =an easy 5lbs

Weight wise the 1270 from what I'm seeing isn't to bad!

Mark

I believe I will be able to hold my own with it!! As far as the weight I use to swing a 4.5 lb detector over 8 hrs and also I am still pretty young 35yrs old and I still get around pretty good! WV62 hooked me up with my all time favorite 5x10 coil and that thing is a get-R-done coil!! I had a 1266 and always used that coil and never seemed to get fatigued swinging it. I know they was days I would swing it over 9 hrs.

Made all the mods for the 1270 Raincover, hip mount, chest mount, homemade SWINGY-THINGY, if you need some pic's for doing your own drop me a line. Again AWESOME Detector. Just learn it.................

88junior congrats on a nice unit, I have got some of my best finds using one those 1270's and as far as balance and weight i thought they were fine in my book reguardless what anyone says, its like anything you figuire out the little details of the machine i think you will be happy, got my first and only spanish reale and 12k gold heart locket that was 10" deep and the size of was as big a qaurter to 1/2" think

Yep I use to swing another brand of beep and dig detectors and I have always came back to what I cut my teeth on which is the 1200 series Fishers I just feel like they just perform a little better! In my medium to heavily mineralized soil Fisher just performs better for me!! Guys how long does it take to get over the learning curve on this 1270 as far as mastering the controls and being able to set it up blind folded?

Well I got my new to me 1270 today done a airtest with the 10-1/2" coil on it, on a clad quarter I got right at 12" on it a dime I got around 9" on a US belt buckle it was getting right at 18" so I believe this dog will hunt!! I got a 5",8",5x10", 10-1/2" coil in the trade so I think this will have me covered as far as my detecting preferences. I will use the 5x10 coin hunting and the 10-1/2" on relics definitely I think this detector will git-r-done!! Now if I can find a good used 12" hothead coil for it I would be even happier!

Found a hothead 12" coil for it I will let you guys know how it airtest compared to the 10-1/2" coil.

Interested in the results.

Former 1270 owner

The CZ got a taste silver yesterday, took it to a local park and found a small silver ring. I like the CZ, I really like the fact that I can hip mount it.

You can Hip Mount the 1270 too...HEHEHEHE

I thought you'd do good with it I am going to try and hit a couple sites where during the Civil War they used for target practice and also camped there I've found quite a few relics there but the iron there is bad so I'm hoping this thing will help me out here a little bit!

Yep you are absolutely right there Shooter you proved it can be done!!

The 1270 is a great detector, and while it's a little lighter than the 1266, it doesn't balance nearly as well. Batteries under the cuff on the 1266 provide a lot better balance. With that being said, it is one deep relic hunting monster.

I think the 1266 & 1270 are the best all around relic detectors out there!!
