New or Used?

I've been wanting to upgrade from my Ace 250 and the AT Pro seems to make the most sense. My Ace has been well used and never had a problem, do the AT Pros seem to be fairly reliable as far as purchasing a used one? My budget would be stretched to get a new one, I still need a good pinpointer and would like to get a 5x8 coil as those seem to be everyone's favorite, but if I get a new machine then those would have to wait.

Thanks for any help.

I have hundreds of hours on two of them and never had a malfunction with either. They might well be one of the most reliable detectors out there.......at any price. My experience, anyway. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim, it would be nice to save for some accessories, which coil is your favorite for general detecting?

I use the stock 11" a lot. When the need arises for a smaller coil application, my preference is the NEL Sharp Shooter. HH jim tn

Petey, I would recommend new (or a very recently made used one) because the AT Pro has had reliability issues since the detector was first released in 2010. Garrett has corrected problems over the years as they became apparent. Components that didn't prove to hold up to usage over time have been replaced with sturdier ones.

Thanks, I don't normally worry about buying used, but a detector is a big enough purchase that you're right about getting one with some kind of warranty.
