NEW OLD TIMER ON BOARD

Good Sunday morning to you all. I'm a 75 year old boy, living in Southern Ontario Canada. I've been lurking here for a few days and thought I'd better jump in. I haven't hunted for over 35 years(with my Fisher 1260) but a neighbor was over the other day and I showed her some of my finds. Damn, I'm hooked again. I want a machine in the worst way, the wife says "NO WAY, YER TO DAMN OLD". What does she know??? smile.
I can't believe how machines have changed over the years, if I do decide to give it a try, I think I'd like to go with a Fisher 1270 (hopefully I can find a used one, CHEAP)
I'll continue to snoop around on here and drool over the finds I see, and who knows, maybe I'll be able to join in a more serious way in the future.
Regards to all,
Cliff Nelson

I'm enclosing (I hope) a pic of an item for identification.

Might I suggest a Garrett Ace 250. Good machine for a low price ......$200 range, good depth and discrimination. Fisher has since been bought out by a company that also makes Bounty Hunter (piece of junk! on the low end price range). After that you are looking at machines that are $500 and up for a good one. There is plenty of stuff to be found especially on the beaches.

You will find a great family of people here...
just don't take much of anything seriously caus we like to have fun. ;)

As far as a detector... there are lots out there and folks
here will give you some models to think about...
My best advice is on buying a detector is .....keep it simple..
you can have a great time immediately without the confusion of chasing tons of bad targets
because the machine you chose has way to many features you haven't yet learned.
Don't get me wrong...
you WILL dig bad targets but it's lots more fun to "grab and go" when starting.
I have some great finds with an old shadow x2, ..... my simplest detector.
I also have other high $ detectors but the simple ones are the ones
you can share with a friend who has never detected and wants to go with you.

Best wishes,

Real nice to hear from all the guys, it's great to be comming back to thing. I prev. hunted for a couple years with a fisher 1260, am in the market for a 1270 now, that should more than meet my needs. As stated earlier I'm 75 years old according to the calendar, but that don't mean nothin
