"New" old park gives up unbelievable results !!

Labor day weekend I tried a "new" old park that I had hunted about 30 years ago. BOY, was I surprised with the results ! I figured that if I pounded long enough
I might turn up a couple IHs or a silver dime - well, I was wrong. I couldn't believe all the targets ! The ground was VERY dry and hard to dig so I was only checking
deepies. I might have to rename the park "Indian head park". They were all over the place ! I dug a total of 64 pennies during three short hunts. The results :
41 wheats and 23 IHs ! Of the wheats, 25 of the 41 are pre-1920 (1909-1919). Also turned up two barber dimes (1899 & 1910), one Merc 1944, two liberty nickels
(1889 & 1902), and a Buffalo. Other finds were a sterling ring and a LC token with reeded edge (front has the liberty head with "COMP. S. MARKE", the reverse
has a beautiful Federal eagle with "COMPOSITIONS SPIEL MARKE"). Misc other "stuff" was also found. The marbles and the porcelain doll leg came up as I dug
other targets.
I dug NO clad and 80% of the targets were something interesting. The cursor positions for the IHs were all over the place. I was a little disapointed with the quantity of silver given the amount of early pennies - but I'm optomistic because I've only initially swept less than 5% of the
park.
The wheats and IHs are soaking right now so no pictures yet. I know I'm going to be hitting this park quite a bit until hell freezes over in Ct.
BRYCE - I think you would get bored with this park !!
Question: Both the liberty nickels (found on different days) had the cursor hitting in the top right and I was surprised to see that they poped out as nickels! No
other objects in the hole. Has anyone else experienced this?

Nice finds! What a great site. The token you found is probably a game counter (metallic token used in card playing and related games). They predate gambling chips and were used in a similar manner. Yours probably dates to the mid 1800s and was probably made in Germany. Value is hard to address - you may want to check on eBay for past prices. I would guess your ring to be from late 1800s - early 1900s. Hope you hit this site hard and find more goodies. HH

Thanks, I plan on hitting it plenty hard. The ratio of IHs to wheats kind of surprised me. On the last short hunt I found 21 coins: 11 IHs, 8 wheats, a liberty
nickel, and the token. I have to pace myself because I have an urge to go too fast because I want to cover ground due to the quantity of targets. I'm sure
the Explorer has alot to due with my success but it's incredible to find a spot these days with this density of older targets. My only fear is that some
do-gooder will make a stink and I'll get tossed out.

Bruce...that is AWESOME you have a site like this to pound.

Nice digs:thumbup:

PS: Wanna' make a small wager on whether or not I would get bored tryin' to help you find some more goodies at that place?:bouncy: :clapping:

Bruce that is weird. What did the nickels hit at out of the ground? Are you sure there wasn't anything else in the hole?

I've had this happen before, usually an iffy signal that is giving me both upper right(silver/copper) hits and bouncing to nickel; usually means multiple coin spill. More rarely get a hit somewhere in between that for some reason decide to dig and have seen a nickel/copper or silver combo in very close contact.

I'm real curious on this one. Sounds like you have one heck of a site. I imagine when the ground gets wet it will be even better.

Thanks Chris. Yea, I rechecked thoroughly on those "silver" reading nickels. No other targets. Funny thing is that they were both liberty nickels.

Wow, sounds like an awesome park to detect at. I would do just about anything to find that many Injuns from a park. I've only got about 3-4 different parks in my area with the chance at finding an injun, and they're getting really tough to find now.......see you on the weekend!! :heh:

Obviously, the park has been silver cherry picked, but no one can get them all, and with the machine you have today, you will be finding all of those missed coins others passed over!

Major Congrats. Can't wait to see all of them Injuns!! :super:

Because of their composition and corroded condition will hit in the high coin zones while in the ground but revert back to a nickle reading once out of ground...over the years have had this happen but its far and few between.....and certainly a problem if you have the nickle disced out as once in the dirt pile you won't pick it up...had it happen with several types of units so not just
an explorer thing...

Thanks Dan(s). This is the first time it's happened to me and both liberty nickels WERE very corroded (got them soaking in ketchup right now).
I just know there's alot of silver hiding there. So many old cents - and like I said, I haven't even initially covered 5% of the park.

Bryce, Let me know if you're ever going to be in Ct, I'll give you a tour. Another odd thing about this park is that it isn't so stupidly trashed out - I mean, there's stuff there, but it isn't a total mess.
