New MXT User with question

JMorgan

New member
I'm new to the forum. I just purchased my MXT 3 days ago. With the deal I got a free Bullseye 2 pinpointer. Would that be a good thing to keep. I traded my 5900 in for the MXT and the pinpointing was always kind of erratic on the 5900. Maybe it was just the user =) I've never had or used a pinpointer before and was wondering if using the trigger on the MXT should be good enough. I could always sell my pinpointer. Thanks.

Hey you will want to keep your hand held pinpointer because sometimes the coin or piece of jewelry you are looking for after you dig your plug will be covered in clay or mud etc. Some times the coin is on the side of the hole because you didn't get a good pin point.Coins get discolored and look the color of dirt and they are hard to find then. Having that pinpointer will cut your time retrieving your find. I don't know what I would do without mine. I sold my bullseye and bought a in line probe by Sunray. Hope I answered your question, Pete aka badboy

Welcome to the forum. You will like the MXT! Its a great detector. I have a Bullseye pinpointer, and never leave home without it. I feel it saves time when trying to locate small targets in wood chips, sand or dirt. Give it a try. I think you will like it and want to add it to your arsenal.

Congrats on the MXT. I've had mine about 18 months and love it. My opinion.......DO NOT sell the pinpointer. Best accessory I could ever have and that goes for any detector. The only better thing I could think of is someone with me to do all my digging for me........... The couple of folks I hunt with share the same opinion. If you decide you do want to sell it.....let me know, I'll buy it. Good luck and happy hunting.

Welcome JMorgan to the Forum!!!!!
You will find allot of good info about the MXT here. It's funny I started out with a 5900 Di Pro Plus and loved the machine. I didn't have any trouble pinpointing with it and the depth was very accurate. The only reason I sold mine was a guy I worked with saw me use it and saw the coins I found with it and paid me what I gave for it. As to your question about the pin pointer, I would strongly suggest that you keep it. At present I don't have one but I wished I did because sometimes I do miss the coin when I pinpoint with the MXT. I don't think it's the MXT, I think it's me, I can't hear as well as I use to so I'm not sure when I get the loudest sound on pinpoint and I think this is why I miss sometimes. I am looking for a Sun ray DX-1 probe that is compatible with the MXT and when I get it I think my miss ratio will decline and my extra looking time will be cut in half as well. I love the MXT and I think you will too!!!
Hope this helps.:detecting:

Yeah, I've been having some difficulty at times pinpointing with the MXT. I took somebody's advice, just tonight, and taped two bright orange string pieces on the coil to form a bullseye cross. Believe or not, it helped. I'm back to digging 2-3" holes to recover stuff, instead of the 5-6" it was taking. In fact, whites ought to consider molding a bullseye cross into their stock coils. Wouldn't add weight and would make it easier to pinpoint.

Hey Canewrap,
Thats a good idea about the tape. I think I'll try it. I remember on the 5900 blue max coil it had what I'm going to call a cross hair on this coil and I miss it on the MXT. Thanks for the info

By all means keep that pinpointer. I have several coils for my MXT and the pinpoint area is a bit different on all of them. In other words..I wouldn't be without a pinpointer. Good luck.

Welcome and congratulations on the new MXT. I LOVE my macheen. I started with an XLT 9 yrs. ago. The XLT is now a very distant backup! You should definately keep, utilize, put the battery in her, pinpoint the heck out of targets, cut down yer search time in a hole or plug. Did I imply you should keep and use your pinpointer? HA-HA!!:yo:
