I just traded in my Minelab Safari of 3 years for an MXT Pro this week and have no regrets so far. Took the MXT out today for the first time to kick the tires on it and take it for a test drive. I was only able to hunt for an hour before it started to rain but my finds totaled 2 quarters, 2 dimes, 1 nickel, 8 pennies, some melted lead, an earring and a couple buckles/clips. I thought the MXT target ID was spot on. I barely dug any trash targets and when I did I found an earring. For the past few weeks while researching whether to buy an MXT or another detector I spent time and read a good number of posts on this forum and found the advice and tips given here were very helpful.

What coil were you using ? I just picked up an 8x6 SEF for mine and it is an awesome coil for it.

The Safari is a nice detector, and can sniff out deep silver when taking your time and it can hunt salt water beaches very well, but the MXT Pro is much better in iron and trash, the recovery speed is faster and its hotter on lower conductive targets.

You are going to have fun with it.

Right now just the stock 10" DD coil it came with. Will eventually invest in the smaller coils.

I agree that the Safari is great on the beaches, but I found it pretty useless in the high mineralized red soils in parts of Virginia. The slow recovery became even more evident in that environment and made relic recovery in that soil painful. I wanted more of an all around detector that I could use everywhere. And I could never quite get the hang of the Safari.

Congrats on the new machine. You're going to love your MXT Pro. Good short hunt also. HH, Nancy

This was my second day out with my new MXT pro at a local park and it did not disappoint. I really liked how I was able to pick out good coin targets between all the trash targets. Totals for today 2 Tokens, 6 Quarters, 10 dimes, 3 nickels and 22 pennies.

Closed out the first weekend with my new MXT pro on a high note. Today's totals 5 quarters, 4 dimes, 1 nickel and 8 pennies. I could have dug a lot more pennies but thought I would save my back the agony and left them for another day. 3 day coin total: 13 Q, 16D, 5N, 38P.

You're doing great with that machine. I love seeing those nickels coming out of the ground too. Thanks for sharing your finds and HH, Nancy

Thanks Nancy. Night and day difference between the Minelab Safari I was using and this MXT. Never was able to get the hang of the Safari and have never recovered this many coins in such short amount of time. The mxt has a much faster recovery than the safari and the target separation is fantastic.

You're welcome. The MXT is a fantastic machine and you're so right about the separation and also the fast recovery. HH, and keep up the great detecting.

Got out a bit today between the raindrops with my new MXT pro for about an hour and hauled in 14 Quarters, 4 Dimes, 3 Nickles and 9 Pennies. Barely dug any trash, the target separation and recovery speed continues to impress me. Found one quarter in the same hole as a large rusty nail. And the Target ID screamed quarter.

That MXT Pro is going to pay for itself in no time. What other hobby can do that with such a small fee to begin with! Way to go and keep up the great detecting. As always.....HH, Nancy

You got a great all-around machine. It wont let you down. CCH
