new mtx

Well, I hope the responses don't end up making you think you put the cart before the horse by buying first and asking second. Anyway, I've had an MXT for several years now and the only thing I will criticize about it is I find the weight and balance somewhat cumbersome. I'm 68 with a body age that's probably somewhat older and I find I get tired of swinging it after several hours. I also have several Tesoros and am used to their very light weight. That's the con. The pros are, very versatile detector, the ground tracking works well, the coil selection is more than adequate, the TID is as accurate as I would expect a machines estimate to be, the depth is good, as deep as I want to dig anyway and the discrimination is very good. Some don't care for the threshold hum and assorted sounds that come thru when hunting, but I like a threshold hum, personally. I set mine to just audible and it works fine for me. The MXT also has (to me) the advantage that all it takes to get going is to set the mode, the knobs and get detecting whereas some of the other models have so many ways that you can set them that it is possible to reduce performance in the search for the best settings. If you read through the posts you'll find that many of us use the 6X10DD coil as our main coil and many really like the 5.3 for trashy areas and as a general use coil as well. The Little 4X6shooter has been very good in heavy trash in my hands, but does take patience as it covers much less area per sweep. Get out and get digging.

Read this further down the page. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?25,979501 I had mine for four years and have no complaints. I'm 65 and have no trouble swinging it even with the 10x12 SEF. Whites aren't the lightest detectors but I think they are well balanced. I hope you like yours. Rob

You have purchased one of the most versatile detectors ever made. Most people can start finding good targets right away with it in almost any environment. However, an MXT will continue to teach new things for years. You will not outgrow it quickly.

Bill, i was suffering shoulder and elbow pains. I shortened my rod one notch and the problem was resolved.Have you tried that yet??

Bill what Groundshaker said about the rod I did the same thing. My forearm and shoulder used to get tight and sore. I shorted the rod one hole and I couldn't believe the difference. It's been so long since my arm and shoulder hurt I forgot about Groundshaker's tip. Rob
