As well as the weight it tips the scales at . . . . . . some interesting features but little detail on what they actually offer in terms of enhanced performance in the field.

NOTE: Before more people contact me for details on how this unit functions, I just wanted to say that I had no involvment in this new model from Minelab . . . . in fact it is the first non-gold detector since the original Sovereign was designed that I was not involved to some degree so I know what the rest of you do which at this point is just what the 30 second teaser on the Minelab site alludes to.

It will be interesting to see the feedback as people get it in the field and determine how it performs under real conditions across the country and elsewhere.

I am also very interested in it's cost and it's performance ...

Kind of off the subject Andy, but thanks for putting together that Minelab Users Handbook. Absolutely priceless ...

Pricetag - from some dealer sources and what I've seen around in other countries...
$2500 for the basic model to $3000+ for the wireless...worth it??? Who knows....

Should be interesting Item,I hope it can handle some underwater depth as I will be diving on a Virgin Ship Wreck Site in July and would be great test of its abilities.

Sorry . . . . the teaser on the Minelab site says "Waterproof to 10 ft / 3 meters" :(

Here are a few pictures.

The specs - limited as they are - state "FBS 2" and shows the FE - CO range as being identical to the E-Trac so it does not appear that the circuitry is a shift from the current Explorer / E-Trac / Safari platform.

Looks like the answer to the AT PRO with over kill. It may replace the Sov... dont know about the Xcal just because the screen seem worthless to me on the beach and in the water neck deep....? Interesting to see if the wireless phones work IN the water and is the coil hardwired? Heavy sucker over 5 lbs. At that weight you would think hip mounting would have been considered. Looks like a back woods machine.... but if... i say IF it has improvements to small gold like chains it might fly off the shelf regardless of price. Id say expect a lot of hype initially..... but its got competition with the Deus and Blisstoe. They sure didnt listen to us about weight. Hope its well balanced. Also, im hoping for inproved TID and recovery. That color screen might also use a lot of battery. Think swingy thingy.

Nice innovative posts fellas looks like they borrowed a little from Whites and Garrett and only time will tell....

It won't replace the Excal or the GT. Those are simple machines (that still have raw power to go as deep or deeper than anything on the market) for people who want to just hunt and not be bothered by doing a bunch of things on a computer screen. Besides that, the price of an Xcal looks like it will still be about half the price of that thing. GPS and a computer screen is pointless when your waist deep in water and the screen is under the water, but if they could have made it cheap and light enough to also use on land then that would be a big perk light the AT Pro.

I was hoping for a waterpoof but cheap AT Pro killer price wise, with a simple LCD screen and being LIGHT so it could be used just as easily on land as in the water like the At Pro. Minelab could have even used the older and cheaper (but still as deep or deeper than anything on the market) BBS technology to keep the price down and then eliminated the Xcal and GT from their line up as a new light water/land machine would have replaced them both and sucked away some of the AT Pro sales. I know the AT Pro isn't as deep as a Minelab, but at that price it doesn't have to be for many people who want a light land and water detector with a full LCD screen so it's just as comfortable on land as in the water. I'm a bit let down by it all. Too much money, too much weight, and too many questionable features in terms of actual usefulness.

I never say never...... ill wait and let the machine sell me. But thats one heavy weed whacker looking machine. If its got PI/disc potential its worth the look..... but the price is just plain insane unless its picking up the small stuff.

Yep, I hope for the best - it sure looks cool. I cannot believe that ML would put out a heaver machine than the Explorer series. Hopefully that five pound figure is wrong. FBS 2, SmartFind 2 and Fe/Co makes it sound like it is sort of explorer-like.

I would easily give up pc mapping, gps, color screen and wirelessness for a few less pounds. They did hit one of my wishes with being waterproof. Lets hear how well it works!
