New Meter for Sovereign GT

Lutzy48

New member
I just completed a 180 meter for my Sovereign GT using a digital meter module and a surplus housing. Total cost of project including paint for the housing, switch, connectors, etc. was just under $40 US. Here are a few photos of the project.

Dertnc,

Keep in mind, I built this from surplus parts. The meter module was only $10. Normally they are much more expensive than that. And the housings were something from some sort of medical equipment. I don't even know if there are any left in the store. But thanks for the praise.

Many meter modules require 5 volts nowadays. Fortunately, this one was designed for 9 volts. So I just us a 9 volt battery. :)

Beautiful work! Very professional looking too. Thanks for sharing - Jim

Excellent job! There is another guy on here in the process of building his own meter. I hope he posts his when done too. Always like to see people build their own stuff. Now you need to do a remote PP mod. I posted a schematic/pictorial I made to do that on the GT a while back. It can be found on here as well under the "Sovereign GT Mods" thread in the mods forum. Really nice having a trigger in the grip like a normal detector.

you are talented ,

Critter Hunter,

A grip mounted PP switch would be great. But, I just bought the GT new so I don't want to open it up and void my warranty. It does sound like a great option, though. Too bad ML didn't have the foresight to put it in at the factory.

Thanks to all for the nice compliments. I have always enjoyed building things. ...and not always do I save money, but in this case it worked out well.
