Greetings to all. I am a happy new owner of the MXT-Pro and am having fun learning to use it. I live in Anchorage Ak.and am totally hooked on MDing !!! I have found a few coins and a little cheapo ring. Anyhow, I appreciate the info from all the MXT users in this forum, thank you. I have a question that I have been wondering about while running in CJ mode. If I find a reply and go back over it do I need to change anything so that the machine doesnt discriminate out the signal ? I find that sometimes I will get a target and when I go over it again it will change or be less strong than the first time. I usually run it with the recommended settings with a 5.3 whites coil. I am curious about how to get the best response. I have been going to pinpoint mode, finding the source then concentrating on that to get the reading but will the ground bal. minimize the true signal or will it stay accurate? It has been working well for coins as they give off a strong reply, but I am curious if I am missing targets from ignorance :) LOL Thanks for responses in advance.

Welcome to the fourm, I do not have the pro so I can't help much. I use the old mxt & hunt in relic mode all the time. I find that it goes deeper & has a good recovery rate, all you have to do is relate the vdi # to what coin or other object you are over. As far as learning you will have to dig a lot of targets, mine I know if the vdi is around 86 it's a quarter, 20 nickle, 78-82 dime & so forth. a vdi of 20, 32,35,42 I always dig thats where I find most of my gold rings.

Someone with a Pro will help you out more than I can, but remember swing, dig, swing, dig. LOL.

Well that's a tough one. I have been running a pro for about a year now, and can tell you that you are looking for repeatable responses. I've learned to just trust trust the machine and run the gain fairly high and focus on good signals. Confirm your GB by pumping the coil then raising it to waist level and squeezing the pinpoint and lowering to the ground. There should be no Change to the threshold sound. If not re-do over a known target free area that can be confirmed by pinpoint in all metal. I've noticed that some deep targets on the edge of detection (all metal detection) can cancel out. In this case hold ground grab to to temporarily freeze the ground tracking engine and sweep and listen for a good signal. If in doubt dig. Basically shallow to moderately buried targets (5-7 inches") are pretty much cut and dry, it's the deeper targets that one must learn to identify. Keep swinging and digging and you will become one with your machine. It's taken me about a year to get a grasp of it. I learn something new every day, and that fact explains the complexity of the MXT Pro. It's one fine machine!

Welcome to the forum. We've got a lot of wonderful people here with the MXT PRO, I'm sure they'll be able to answer your question. HH, Nancy

welcome!

a mxt pro user should help you better, but I think the CJ of the mxt pro is quite the same as the relic alt mode of the MXT

Thanks for comments and information ! I have had a great time playing with this detector and am amazed at how well it picks up targets. I went out before work this morning and dug up about twenty coins. A lot of the areas around here are new developments so it is unrealistic to expect to find old stuff, but its lots of fun. I did pull out a 1979 Susan B 50 cent piece that I thought was going to be a quarter. That was a really cool bonus ! I also found 5 coins in one hole all stacked together. Anyhow, thanks for the ideas !

[size=large]i believe you should hold ground grab button in as you re-sweep. this prevents the machine from tracking out the target. the manual also says this should be done with the tracking switch in ground or salt. i quess it won't work if track switch is in lock position.you want to really read your manual carefully and fully. also recommend jeff foster's book,"The MXT EDGE'. it was written before the pro but the machines are still so much alike.
be very mindful of the mode switch. it likes to move back into relic from cj. you can tell this has happened when words like buckle appear instead of 50 cents. as bula says it doesn't hurt the hunt but actually gives a little more depth.just remember the vdi numbers aren't different. good hunting to ya!!

today i found a small bronze coin (urbs-roma with the Head of roma other side the wolf and the twins)
the second coin must be a late Byzantine coin.
