Hi all i have a x-50 was thinking of upgrading to the 705. But i was reading were fisher is coming out with the Gold Bug $549 retail. Looks pretty good runs at 19kz anyone have thoughts about this. Was reading were it goes as deep as the gold Bug 11. I love my 50 but wanted to upgrade to 705 and u know how you can get confused sometimes. Also was looking at money diff. Anyway will end up going to 705 but might wait until mid november when gold bug comes out see reports on it.

Well currently in the X-Terra line the X50, X70, X305, X505, X705 all can operate at 18.75kHz with a wide variety of coils. There are several other high gain detectors that operate in the same area, Tesoro Tejon, Troy X5, White's V3, XP etc. So there is really nothing new about the use of the frequency for a variety of tasks.

As far as claims to the "same depth" as the Gold Bug II is really pretty meaningless, because the Gold Bug II is up in the 70kHz region. And as I far as I know the new Gold Bug has not even been released in order to make comparisons. And depth on what type of target in what type of ground should be the first question asked.

The only thing I can guarantee you is that if you point out any shortcomings of that detector, that the National Sales Manager & Chief Engineer will be on these forums berating you for doing so. Of the major manufacturers only First Texas finds the need to continually be defending their product quality and repair services online. They should include that fact in their Spec sheets, as it is obviously a "benefit" missing from the Garrett, Minelab, Tesoro, & White's product prospectuses.

Welcome to the forum, I just upgraded to a x-terra 70 I had the 50 . You can find the 70 s alot cheaper, I found mine for 380 shipped on the classifieds.

One disadvantage of the GB11 will be it has a fixed transmit frq compared to the Xterras, along with a very small coil.
Now if they will throw in the larger coil to go with it, that would be good.
Supposedly the new GB is specifically for prospecting but I see where they changed that to multi purpose.
Personally I would wait till the "Bugs" are worked out before getting the Goldbug,
which could take a year or 2 :biggrin::biggrin:.
