New member Program Mod's ?

Hi All

This is my first post here , I live in Ontario Canada and have owned my v3 for about a week now and have spent about 6 hours with it so far. I have been coin hunting in local parks just to get the feel of the v3 . I have real clean soil here and can run at times with Rx- gain at 15 and discrimination at about 88 . I tried the coin program at first but now I am using Hi-Pro mode . So I am wondering if you could help my learning curve and share what programs you are using and what modifications you have made to them, also any other interesting things you have learned about the machine would be great to hear about.

Thanks in advance
Pat

Pat, Have fun with the V3! Use it. Try the stock programs...learn what they do! You will have time to reprogram later :)

It must take more than 6 hours to read the screens and know what info they give!

Use some test coins and trash/junk to get familiar with the unit.

Good Luck
Jerry

Welcome Pat! Sounds like you have real good ground where you live. I have decent ground so I've been running things high too. One thing though...I've been running like this for a while and just started working an area that has taught me that there are down sides to doing this as "The Rule". Tweaking stock programs is all most of us are doing at this point.

This area has seen uses from a logging camp to multiple farms to bungalow resort in the 20's thru 40's. It has seen a lot of fill, regrading and trash. (Place is huge so am hoping to find some sweet spots!) With all of the regrading, there are huge areas that have large amounts of iron oxides in patches that still read ok with high settings but have found that backing down on RX and upping the other sensitivities, is providing much more reliable info and less intense audio w/equal or better depth. Air testing is helpful but...if you can find an area to school yourself in, that would get you up and running faster. I began digging it all (for a stretch) and learned a lot quick. Analyze has skewed response at depth but it is fairly predictable. 3 bar reads more accurate to greater depths but occasionally Analyze can be true as deep as 8" or 9"! (Seems to happen in dark and loamy ground mostly.) Guess what I'm saying is start high or low but...work your way the other direction and you'll learn exponentially. I need to go back to a promising spot and see if I can do better there.

Enjoy the V and wish we had 2 dollar coins to find here!!!!

Thanks Gents

I guess Ill take your advice and sit back, relax and enjoy the Hi-Pro mode for a while :) .I notched Rx- Gain down to 11 and hit my first silver coin today, it was only about 31/2 to 4 inches deep but gave a nice strong repeatable signal, it

Welcome to the forum Pat and congratulations on your first silver with the V. I too use the Hi-Pro and I have been real happy with it. Don't worry much about other peoples programs, make adjustments that you think might help you, in your ground and your hunting style. Bury some coins and get to know the V by making a few adjustments, one at a time, and change your swing speed to get the best signal on the deep coins.

Welcome Pat...and congrats on your first silver with the V3. There will be many more, to be sure.:detecting::clapping:
