New member-New 705-new hobby!!!

data

New member
Hello everyone,
This forum was what helped me decide on the 705, so thanks to all!!!
I'm a newbie, but I'm a quick study(I hope).
I was curious if anybody has an opinion on permanently fixing the control box to the shaft... I travel a lot and want to bring this baby with me everywhere, and it looks like a wood screw is used to attach it.... does anyone do this?
Secondly, I live in Seattle Washington, it is VERY wet. Is there a coil that is better suited to these conditions, or does the wet ground not really matter?
Thanks for any info

In the package for the detector, you should have seen a small black sheet metal style screw that will fasten the control pod to the handle once the pod is completely seated in the handle.

Since I use mine wading I can't take the chance of making a submarine out of the control pod.

Welcome data!!! I have never attached my control pod with the screw that comes with it. I like to have mine so I can take it off and clean the shaft and coil with a hose ot under the faucet. That is one of the selling points of the Terra's to me, the control pod does not get as dirty as the rest of the rig, especially if you use the environmental cover. You can go to the FAQ section at the top of the forum and look around for the coil section. I know of no reason that any of the Terra's coils would not work for you in damp soils, infact I get my best depth's in wet/damp soil!! Good luck and post often,as there is a wealth of info on here for you to learn and enjoy your new X-Terra.:minelab:

Welcome to the site! Glad you are here. I have never had mine scewed on either. I have used it for just over 2 years. No problems at all, Beale.

I used the screw, if for no other reason than I did not want to loose it. Get an enviromental cover or use ziploc bags for the controler. I did not use them for a while and it kinda wears on the control pad. I believe all the coils will be just fine in the rain. Several of them are water proof -- as in submersable. Its not That wet over there that you should need a waterproof coil. lol

Do you travel I-5 or west to east. If you get to Spokane shoot me a line.

Jeff
