New member.....Hello !

I have been lurking for a few weeks and have a ace-250.
I worked my yard for a few hrs (my first time detecting) And well one mans junk is another mans ... Thats open for debate lol. How accurate is the stock coil at pin pointing? I did the cross thing and try to dig a nice little hole but nothing, check again and it is off to the side of my nice little hole I repeat and I repeat and.... Now being that it is my yard and a none grassy area, I go grab a shovel. You would think that I would have have all kinds of Chinese coins! I have read the post on pin pointing and the top of the inner ring is suppose to be the place? I was also wondering how deep does the ace-250 detect an object, when it says 8" plus. How deep can it actually detect something? I have a hole a foot deep and it still says 8" plus. I don't get the hang of this, I will have to go to the pawn shop so I will have finds to post! All exaggerations and attempts at humor aside it does seem like it is a rewarding hobby and you all seem like you enjoy the past time & find stuff every time you go out hunting. hope I get as good as all of you's. Thanks for the enjoyable reading on this forum.

well I may have exaggerated a little. I don't do very well pinpointing with the stock coil either. After a couple of hunts I put on the sniper coil and haven't taken it off since, but I hunt a lot of trash laden parks.

Sounds like your about ready to un-earth a beer/soda can or a LARGE chunk of iron. Keep digging and let us know.

i notice that too on my ace 250 it read the same depth. it take Patience at you have to learn it get to know the machine. don't know how deep it detecton.

Since you are new to the hobby it takes time and a lot of practice. You can't just pull the machine out of the box and start finding treasure no more than you can pick up a bowling ball for the first time and bowl a 300 game. Detecting isn't as easy as it may sound. When you read posts on these forums you have to realize many of these guys started way back. I started 43 years ago and we all started just like you, flubbing up at every turn, so just have patience, read your manual over and over or watch your video, if you have one, more than once.

Tape some coins ( a foot apart ) to a piece of cardboard then turn it over and practice locating and pinpointing the coins. Use something sharp to probe through the cardboard to see it you hit the targets right. You'll get the hang of it soon. BE glad you ain't having to use some of the clubs many of us started out with. :)

I am glad I dropped by today because I was out with my ace yesterday and I was getting very upset thinkin something was wrong with the machine .But now that pinpointing was explained in a more redable way I am not discouraged anymore just itching to go out for more.
It seemed I was getting alot of false signals ,swing one way (BLEEP)and then the otherway (nothing)and I was even diggin these and finding nothing  .But now my faith in my machine is back and I will give more time to teach me what it is telling me.

Thank you
Shawn
