Hello, I am 70 yrs old and just bought my first metal detector 2 weeks ago. I don't know why it took so long. I figure I have perhaps 10 good years left, so I figure I better get busy and find some treasure, along with some hidden trash.
My new detector is a Garrett Ace 200. It seems to work as advertised. Just hunting in my back yard down on the beach area by the river, in around 2 hours searching I've found 2 clad dimes, a new nickel and two pennies. Oldest coin 1996. Also two sardine cans, a pull tab, and several nails, and some wire. So, I figure it is working pretty good. I've done numerous air tests and I have to believe it's an okay machine.
When I ordered my ACE200, I also ordered a Makro pin pointer. Spent almost as much on the PP as the MD. I am glad I did. Everything I found I've used the PP. Pretty quick recovery. In my short MD career, I am a firm believer in a good PP.
My tools are a Wilcox 10" trowel hand digger, and a Lesche T-handle 31" shovel, serrated on one side. At $15.00 to my door, the Wilcox is pretty decent. However, I already see a Lesche trowel in my bag.
Anyways, I look forward to searching this forum for some good reading. Thanks for having me.
