New machine

Thound

New member
Just stopped in to say I hope that Whites does a better job with their next new machine than Minelab just did. Come on people at $2500 and 5.5lbs.not many can swing it.MDers are getting older and the machines are getting heavier and out of reach of the avg. Joe. There is a point fast approaching when people will just hang on to their old machines for better or worse.Just my 2 cents worth.HH

Couldn't agree more, and I'm a Minelab user who is a big fan. Way overkill. Too expensive. Too many features. I think they crammed too many features into it like a few other high end detectors from other manufacturers who I won't name here.

I think i will just stay with my old 1990 Eagle II SL, just got home from a 4hr.hunt, don,t know how much money i got but a nice Lady's 14k ring and a 14k cross, so i don,t think a $2500.00 detector could do any better. I am happy with what i have. Good Hunting Flintstone

I agree as well. There's finally a limit to how deep I want to dig, how many bells and whistles are enough and how many menus I want to tab thru. No matter how you get there, the final point is a response to a target and the operator still has to decide to dig or not. The most expensive, sophisticated machine available won't find good targets that aren't there to begin with.
My two bits.

Has anyone heard rumor of a new Whites machine? I have read posts of rumor about a new Tesoro and Garretts coming soon but they are just rumor. If, and I say if the price and weight are what you say they are on the CTX, then I will have to pass. I'm not promoting the AT Pro or anything but it had some nice features packed into an affordable package. Minelab better be careful not to price themselves right out of the market and most peoples budgets!

Buyers set the price.

Unfortunately, that's often true. Often times by people with more money than sense too.

I don't know even in this bad economy there are still a ton of rich newbee yuppies out there Detecting. The parks hear in Chicago are loaded with them and they all have E-tracs! I'm sure there will be plenty new Minelabs around in my area. I wish they would go back to playing biker with their new shiney Harleys.

Just wait a year or two harolld and them yuppies will be on to somethin else. Once they find out that they are not gonna get rich they will move on. This (MDing) is only a hobby and unfortunantly TV is misleading people that you can get rich. HH

$2500 sounds pretty cheap when compared to their top of the line nugget detector at $5500. Yes, I think that's crazy high but then my Honda gets me to everywhere someone elses Mercedes does. Some people have more dollars than others and some people have more cents (sense).

it doesn't matter what new machines they introduce i will always be holdong my XLT with a smile on my face

There are plenty of inexpensive and lightweight detectors on the market. And there is a huge aftermarket for older models. No one is being forced to buy a new, heavy, or expensive detector. It's like choosing to drive an older compact car then complaining because the car manufacturers make new luxury cars. Buy what suits you, learn it well, and don't look back. What's wrong with free enterprise? If the manufacturers stopped coming out with new models 20 yrs ago what would we have now? Some new models worked out....some didn't and fell by the wayside. The market sorts it out and they won't continue to make what doesn't sell. I for one appreciate the efforts of the manufacturers to develope new products for us to choose from. If I don't like 'em I don't have to buy 'em.

Here's my biggest fear about what could happen to this hobby if there is a giant leap in technology...

Just hope I'm being overly paranoid because this hobby is such a great thing to many of us, rich(er) or poor.

Speaking about new machines, I'd like to see 1 or 2 different models come out the Tesoro Factory. Whites, Garrett, Fisher, Teknetics and now Minelab & even XP across the pond have done it. . . Sooooooo.

One of the features I highly question having to pay extra money for is the GPS. Many phones have that these days. Another flashy extra designed to catch your eye and get more cash out of your wallet. I'm sure there are yet other features that most people won't find any real use for that don't do a darn thing for performance as well, yet it all adds up to one expensive price.

There is a new machine on the way.... it may be a solid year out though. And yes Whites has listened to its customers!!!!

Get ready for the most sophisticated target identification ever compiled in a vlf machine. For those that learned the v3i wait till you see what the next detector does. Multi frequency target identification taken to a whole new level. Along with the ingenuity that only Whites has shown to have. I can say that it is common knowledge that it will include a wireless pinointer that uses whatever program you are running on your detector. It will mean no more 5 minute searches in the dug whole only to find a piece of small aluminum surface trash. It is up in the air as to whether the coil wire is done away with and gone to wireless. I for one hope there is an option to run either so that older coils can be used.

If development continues we will see a gold sucking detector that eliminates most foil. They have the tech in place but that launch may have to wait in order to refine it.

Yipeeee!! Sound like some good features there.HH
