New M6 needs smaller coil.

Hey guys I recently got a good deal on an M6 which has the 950 coil, it seems it is a good coil for the open areas and beach but when I go to the local sports areas I hunt there are just to many target under the coil and there is no way to hunt in 7 tone mode, I have to use single tone. Now I have read most of the reviews of the 4x6DD and 5.3 concentric coils but which would you say would be the better of the 2 for jewelry? Most of the clad and jewelry around here are no deeper than 3"-5" I have never owned a DD coil but all the reviews seem to point to the 4x6. Any thoughts and replies welcome. Thanks

Check out the reviews for the 8x6 S.E.F. coil. It is my favorite coil for the M6.

Kellyco is the only distributor in the states.

5.3 is my choice. Every once in awhile I'll use the 4"x 6" but it's depth isn't as good as the 5.3 and I don't think it pinpoints as well. In extreme trash the 4x6 might be a better choice but I rarely get into that much trash.

For the sports fields, 6x10 or 10" dd,. Does well in trashy areas (just go slow) and open spots to cover more ground, IMHO they are the most versatile coils

4x6 is my number one coil I use. It gets 7 inches easily on quarters. I found a 1945 Quartet at 7 inches with it in heavy trash. Since then I havent looked back

I have both coils and for separation in trash the 4x6 coil hands down. Just make sure you overlap your swings because that coil is so small but it is light as a feather.

8x6 SEF you will never take it off.

Ill second that but I have not tried the 4x6 got the sef and Im very happy.

SEF8x6 all the way,one of the best all round coils that i have ever owned,it just make the detector so much better in all aspects.

The 4X6 is very small but very deep. Great in really tight places. It would be hard to beat in and around large rocks and boulders. Still moving boulders and running the 8x6 sef will get the job done. It all depends best tool for the job is what to use. The 8X6 is just a great all around coil but would I use it in a large open field probably not but it will do it.

Thanks for all the advice! Wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to try out each coil side by side to see which one was best for your ground and type of hunting, but until that is possible we rely on the knowledge and experience of the people on the forums and that is certainly not a bad way to go. Oh and by the way thanks for throwing more options out there! hehe, thanks again.

I like the side by side concept but unfortunately even the dealers do not have all the coils lined up for us!
RedRock is correct again though as far as tight spots and vegetation the 8x6 profile is sorta fat and in one of my sled areas I have heavy vegetation that caught up quite a bit on my sef. After working the areas as much as i could with the sef I went back with my 6x10 stuffing it under and in the bushes and pulled a 10 k class ring and a silver ring with cubics all around it. So there is defiantly a advantage to the 4 x6 being a closed loop and narrow, I will if I have spare money to grab one just to have for prospecting but between the 6x10 and the sef I am pretty comfortable.
Good Luck .
