New love for my Sovereign

Well-known member

Stock straight shaft, Pluggers handle w/vclip on top, Pluggers stand, Docs sling and what else you see here. Thanks to digitall423 for the probe. I've mainly used the GT with a 15" coil on the beaches in the winter, no meter or inline probe. The Sunray probe changes all that for me. After much time in on the Excal I was confident that I'll be isolating and digging good targets with the S8 in difficult conditions, on Monday it proved to be the best tool for the job.
There is a small strip of exposed fresh water beach we've been pounding with 3 very different detectors for weeks. We know the prior history of the site and were convinced there was more there even when we weren't getting any more, just iron readings or hot rocks. Were had been digging everything above iron. Enter the Sov GT - right away I located a couple of coin signals. The wheats cents and nickels come out corroded, sometimes almost beyond recognition. We were comparing signals before digging and we got an education. The kicker is most targets are 1 to 3" deep. He was seeing hot rock readings where I'm clearly getting small "dig" signals via audio and the 550 meter. That +95 on his detector is also the default for targets that can't be identified. Once he started digging those readings he found coins and positively iron mineralized rocks that littered the sight. We are going to collect a few specimens next time out. If it weren't for the Sovereign he wouldn't have dug all his 21 coins - two silvers. I ended up with 29 - 4 were silver and the .925 religious medals. I'll clean up the silver later. The chain is copper.

The sovereign strikes again! Nice finds. I hate to ask but...How heavy is your unit? John

Nice tricked out unit all the toy,s my first GT looked just like yours until my wrist and lower arm gave out lol ,now i hip mount and use a pinpointer on my belt a little lighter , but that bungie cord you have helps a lot . Great finds  Jim

wow bruce, that gt is really pimped out to the max... I can relate to so much of what you posted.... ive also found the gt to be good in iron infested areas provided the iron isn't too large... and hotrocks- its very rare that I ever dig any while using the gt... think I dug 1 or 2 bigger fist size hotrocks in the last 5 years ,that's it...my whites would be hitting them right and left ...those shallow target finds always have me scratching my head wondering how I missed them the first 20 times ive swung over the same area... ive never used the 8 inch coil but anything to give you that little bit of target separation without loosing any depth can only be a good thing... hh dave...

About 6 1/2 lbs without headphones but with the minelab bag I keep on it while detecting. I use the bungee setup to be able to swing it all day if time allows. Overall it's decently balanced (for being heavy) but I always use the bungee setup, the heft would really shorten the time it's comfortable.
