I went to a local spot with a buddy of mine today that had some good history today and I found these two there. Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked! The pictures were taking on a cellphone, I'll have some clearer ones up tomorrow! Found a junk ring too with a bunch of clad.
I've pretty much got iron falsing down. By the way, that real was found an inch down, it was in the plug! I think the place was recently tilled. It does lock hard. I love this machine and I'm more happy with it all the time!
Great finds. The copper looks as if it has quite a bit of detail? Not sure if I would be soaking it in oil. May be a job better left to a conservator. That is if it has any value.
Way to go CS! Congratulations. I found an 1808 Half Reale down here in Mississippi and a "1 bit" piece cut from a Spanish 8 Reale. That's them pictured in my avatar. Hope to get the plate mailed off to you tomorrow.
Thanks DGC! I can't wait to see their faces when they get it. For those who don't know, DGC found a plate for Carvers Cotton Gin in Bridgewater, MA in Mississippi. I live in Bridgewater, MA and he was kind enough to send it out to me so it can be donated and displayed at the Bridgewater Historical Society.
Nice Job CS. Those 1/2 reales are very small. I wonder how far down the E-trac would detect one? Do you remember the #'s, what were you running for a program? Thanks for sharing, Dan
I wasn't even looking at the numbers. It was only about an inch in the ground, it was in the plug! The place was recently tilled. Here are some better pictures, I haven't really cleaned it yet as you can see. And what looks like rim damage I'm pretty sure is from the minting process.
