New Jackson digging tool

WKYDIGGER

New member
This is what I got to use as my digging tool. Always used a Lesche before but wanted to try this. Put my Blackberry in there for size reference. The Jackson is 12 inches long.

Looks similar to the tool sold at Lowes, Although they don't have a holster for it.

I ordered this off the internet. It's stainless steel and seems very well made. I don't think I will break it. Hopefully I will find out maybe next week.

I've seen a blue handled one but it is cheaper than this one and I don't think it is as heavy built either.

I will still probably get another Lesche and let my son use this one later as soon as I can trade some ham radio, shortwave and police scanner gear for another detector.

Monday I will have a Teknetics Omega 8000 with 10" and 11"DD coil. Person bought it and never even put it together. I got very lucky and got a very good price on it. Now i just need to try and trade for something for my son. This is a picture of the one I'm getting.

I have the blue handled ames true temper one from lowes that looks the same except for the handle. I love using it to cut nice plugs, but I'm careful not to pry up to hard as I feel like I will break the handle off if I'm wedged in tight enough. I wonder if this version is any better. All in all these a great tools for the price and come with a lifetime warranty. The best part is the big flat end on the handle so you can really put all your weight into pushing it in the ground.

I do know this one is supposed to be quite a bit heavier than the blue handled one. At least thats what I was told.

I got the blue handle one about 3 years ago from lowes cost around 15 bucks and haven't had a bit of trouble with it only reason I got it was the price between it and the lesche knife that I couldn't afford, I found a small clip on leather sheath later at harbor freight cost me $5.
I used a couple other garden trowels before I got the ames and I must say the ames is the best from all the others I used the serrated edge works great to cut them small roots and I guess to me what makes it a better digger is the blade is not as wide and it don't have a large curve like most of the trowels so makes the plug cutting a lot better.

Bout broke my wrist while digging in hard packed soil.. Darn thing snapped up near the handle from the pressure.. Imagine how that felt when I had pressure pushing down and forward.. OUCH !!! Sore for about a week..LOL.. I swear my wrist would have snapped if I had pushed a little harder..

If the weather ever clears up I'll get to try it. I really can't wait to try out the Omega. I've had Whites, Fishers, Minelabs, Tesoros and Garretts before. I coin and relic hunt both so I'm hoping it will work equally well for both. I guess time will tell.

Elton, I have put alot of pressure on this Jackson to see if it will snap but so far it hasn't. I'm sure I could break it. I've put more pressure on it than I would digging and so far no problems. Guess I'll see once I get it out.

I have the Lowes and Lesche. Both are nice. The version you have looks like it has the steel all the way through which looks like a good improvement. The plastic handle on the Lowes digger had to be sanded down since the sharp edges were cutting into my palm.

Thats why I think this one will last is because the steel does go all the way through the handle. It's actually kind of heavy too.

Not passing judgement on anyone's tools. I do understand the word 'budget'. But to me, outside of the detector, the most important purchase is the digging tool. I have tried many, that cost same or more than my Predator........end result.......they broke. With similar results to Elton's painful experience. Buy the right tool......and you buy it.........ONCE.
Predator Tools is the current mfg of the original Lesche.......George Lesche & wife are the owners........he has the original tooling machines that developed the 'Lesche' digging tool. A family fight years ago for control of the company led him to form Predator Tools. Want to read more on a great guy & american......click link:

I have no interests with this company. Simply a satisfied owner of a quality tool. That I only have to buy once.

I've had several Lesche digging tools over the years and they are a quality tool. And I also broke one 2 yrs. ago trying to pry a rock out of a hole. It was replaced no questions asked.
You know how some guys try different detectors, it's the same thing with the Jackson digging tool. Just wanted to try something different and see how it worked. Had nothing to do with budget.Like I said earlier, I will probably buy another Lesche and let my son use the Jackson later on.
