Hey all, I am a new treasure hunter, I purchased an Infinium LS with all the instructions, and a few extra free goodies (from Kellyco). After my first treasure hunt (shake down cruise) which I found 3 coins, several nails, and a deeply buried Pepsi can (at a local Florida beach) I have found the Infinium a bit confusing (my first detector.....but not gonna give up!!!!). How can you determine the depth of your dig with the Infinium? How can you determine that your target isn't a modern nail? I have used the "iron deletion" mode and still turned up a bunch of nails, and one place (local recreational baseball park) I turned up more nails and a huge screw. I'm not frustrated yet and I have ordered the 10x14 mono coil just because I have seen others saying they couldn't live without it as an addition to the Infinium. Any and all assistance would be appreciated. Oh yeah, one other thing when I got back from my first hunt I was sooooo hot and sweaty I washed the clothes I wore (so I guess you could say I laundered my paper money and the "pocket size" instruction manual......the money is very clean and the instruction manual is all balled up and solid and I can't read it....LOL, ordered a new one). It's O.K. have a laugh on me!!!! Oh yeah I am now realizing that Port Charlotte, Florida can now be nick named "The Nail City" after Hurricane Charley......all that's in my yard is nails (a lot) and all around town!!!!

No actually I didn't think of that......Hmmmmm maybe that's how it ended up in the washer...lol. Thanks for the tip, heading to the Garrett site right now. Have a great evening!!!!

Search this sight for all old post about the iNFINIUM and read them and learn!

Lots of info will keep you busy for awhile.

You have purchased a PI machine which reacts to all metal. The Infinium was not a great first choice for a newbie but since you have it get ready to dig, dig, dig. The iron check isn't 100 % but in time you will be able to eliminate a great deal of iron. It is a very good detector and I have been using one for years but IT IS NOT MY ONLY DETECTOR I pick the areas where I will use it-it is not for everywhere if U want to keep your sanity. PS you did well to find that if you did Englewood Beach!

I love my Infinium, but I can hardly imagine having it as a first detector. I would have probably given up on detecting if that was the case. It is a really unique machine. I use mine mostly for prospecting(nugget shootin')and salt water beach huntin'. Best of luck to ya':biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Guessing your target depth can be a bit tricky with the Infinium but generally speaking, If you have a strong signal that can be detected with the coil 6 to 8 inches of the ground then your target is near the surface say within 6 inches.
If you have a weak signal that disappears when the coil is raised maybe an inch or two then you have a very small target within a few inches from the surface.
These small items often give multiple tones as the coil leading edge, centre and trailing edge each passes over the target.
If you have a weak signal that fades in strength gradually as you raise the coil then you may have a large deep target. Large deep targets can often sound the same as weak near the surface targets but the signal lingers longer as you raise the coil. You have to practice and develop your ear to recognise the Infiniums responses.

Tent pegs and newer iron nails give a low/Hi tone that remains quite strong in Rev Disc. Steel bottle caps that give a strong signal in normal mode will almost always give practically no signal at all in Rev Disc or in other words, very strong signals that fade out completely in Rev Disc are probably trash, always check this type of signal response until you have become very familiar with your Infinium.

Rusty nails often give a good Hi/Lo tone in normal and a slightly reduced Hi/Lo Tone in Rev Disc, unfortunately because they can give this hi tone in both modes you have to check the target.

A low/Hi tone innormal and Rev Disc that does not reduce in strength in Rev Disc is likely to be rusty wire and badly rusted nails or bolts.

Any signal that is either Hi/ Lo or Lo/Hi in normal mode that changes to or remains as a Hi/Lo tone at a reduced strength in Rev Disc, should always be investigated.

Now if that doesn't confuse you nothing will.

Cheers,

Fishers G.
