New Infinium question

therover

Well-known member
In reading Steve H's post about revisting the Infinium and how Garrett has improved the unit and made it more stable, when purchasing a new one, how is one guaranteed that the new unit is an improved one, or part of older stock where you will have to send it back to Garrett for mods ?

I am thinking about selling a few land units and getting one, but I don't want to get a new unit that still needs mods to make it stable. I would love to have a new one out of the box where at least I know that it is the most current one so that if I do have problems/issues with ground balancing, adjusting, etc. then I would know the issue is operator error as opposed to a unit that has to go back for adjustments.

Any help would be appreciated !

Thanks,

John

Hi,

Main thing is to check the coil cables. The old ones look sort of like wires wrapped in shrink tubing and have an uneven surface. The new ones are perfectly round and smooth. This would be of particular concern if buying extra coils as they have a habit of sitting on dealer shelves for a long period of time.

With guys having great results with the mono coils on the Infinium, I would definetly want the 8 inch mono as my primary coil. So, I would guess that even if I got a new, updated Infinium with the stock coil, I may end up getting an older 8 inch mono.

Hmmmm...things to think about.

Hi,

The changes in cable were made over a couple years ago, so most of the older stuff should have cleared out by now at any dealer moving much product. But this is one of those cases where buying face to face has an advantage.

Hi, I just purchased an Infinium that has the rougher looking cables. Does this mean i`m in for trouble? It came with a 10"x14" power dd coil, and the 8" mono coil. Thanks, Scotto

Did you purchase the unit used or new?

If it was used you can contact Garrett and give them the serial number to see if it needs any updates. If I remember correctly, the really old units needed to be sent in and updated just to use the mono coils.

It you purchased the machine new with the additional 8" mono coil, they should both be the newer type. I would still contact Garrett to make sure the unit is a new model and question what to do next.

You definitely don't want to start off learning this machine with an older unit!:ranting:

Thanks for the input. I will contact Garrett to check for any updates. The unit was used very little. It looks like new. I was unaware of any issues with the Infinium at the time of purchase. I purchased it to use along with my Excal. Hope it works out. Scotto
