new infinium and ear pain

I got an infinium and it has the water proof head phones. Is there any way to decrease the volume? I have to ware ear plugs inside the headphones and they are still too loud. I took it to a fresh water beach today that I have been hunting with my vlf detectors. you would think from the amount of targets there are that I havent ever hunted it. This thing is powerful. I tested it on my buried silver dime at 6" and it screams at me. My other detectors can hardly see it. I am hoping to go to my brothers gold mine next weekend and give it a test run on nuggets. I just hope the mine is not too snowed in.

Hi Machineman

Those underwater headphones don't have volume control on them? Hmmm - one solution would be to use the stock headphones that do have volume settings on them - unless of corse you're going underwater. Always harder to hear signals when diving so maybe no volume control for the submersibles. I have a Finny and was thinking about the submersibles but didn't realize they have no volume settings. Thanks for the info.

I think I might try to open up the headphones and add an internal resistor. I am afraid that it might be hard to get them resealed. I also thought of adding a resistor inline and then sealing it really well with silicone. I will post if I do it. I am getting one of the adapters from garrett so I can use normal headphones.

On my Finny water proof phones and the White's Beach Hunter 300, I purchased some rubberized type material sheets/gaskets and plastic like foam years ago at Home Depot or one of the big hardware stores and cut the sections to shape to fit in each ear cup. If I remember correctly, I got them in the plumbing section and found thin to thicker square sheets of them. I just added them piece-by-piece until I found a comfortable level that didn't blow out my ears. Once completed, they stay in and when the machine is turned on the volume is sort of custom set for each ear (works for me).

Thanks!
