I have been trying to arrange a group hunt at a town site that was established in around 1860. The rain had delayed us every sunday for almost 2 months. Well, we got the call today to come on out.
It is private property and was a shipping port for the logging industry. I think he told me it is 1600 acres or so. There are a couple homes that still exist there and we knew that a school was located on the north end or close to it. The school had as many as 60 children in it in the 1880's so there is a real good chance of some older coins.
Well no old silver but my hunting partner found 4 pocket knives and I got a 1960 Quarter. The quarter was right in the old school grounds and I assume that someone was picnicking there and dropped it.
For those that have the research material the picture showing the bluffs and rocks jutting out of the ocean overlays almost perfectly with the 1895 picture of the Kibesillah school. Vince,we where right on the money so to speak.
The area had not been hunted very much and the lack of silver was surprising. I guess the kids of this era didnt have money to throw around and when they had a nickle they felt rich.
If you look closely you can see a dead cow in the grass.... there where 2 or 3 of them in the field.
