Hello,

I've recently decided to take up this hobby. I currently live in Sicily and do alot of hiking and diving, a metal detector would add a little more adventure to these activities and some insentive to explore new places. I'm looking for a solid detector that is capable on land, at the beach and underwater. Is there such a thing? I've been looking at the Tesoro Tiger Shark. From what I've read it has gotten outstanding reviews. Are there any other options? I'm set on the $600 price range. Thank you for any help you can provide. Please feel free to share any other words of wisdom for a beginer.

Hi IDIVE N Welcome, I have a friend with a Tiger Shark N he Likes it I think thats a good one ??? MickFin

:thumbup:Hi idive and welcome to a great hobby, which can even become an avocation!
Of course, a reminder; the Tiger is more designed for FRESH water lakes or
rivers and is a VLF, whereas the Sand Shark is a PULSE circuit made more
for SALT water beaches & oceans. But the Tiger is also good for dry land and
coinshooting, with its discrimination circuit. Pulse units are still not discriminators,
though the R&D is ongoing to try and change that in the near future.
But good luck with all your endeavors!

I understand...My time will likely be spent 75% on land, 25% in salt water. I think the VLF is the lesser of two evils in my case. If I go with a PI, I understand it will be very frustrating on land. Is the Tesoro Tiger Shark the way to go? Are there any other options within my price range, $600ish.

Well IDIVE, all things considered, the Tiger Shark may well be your best bet, since you want to
delve into the ocean environs, as well as land. The TS is indeed one of the few that are great
for both, despite its negatives around salt water. As far as dry land, dry beach sand and even
wet salt sand, other Tesoros are good too and lower in $ than $600, like the Vaquero or Cibola or
even Silver. Other brands you might also consider are the DetectorPro Pirate or the Fisher F5, all
at under $600 (at U.S. discount dealers at least. PM me for names if you'd like).
But the Tiger would enable you to dive to 200 feet if you so desire, which you might (watch your depth
and down times please!).
But, most other VLFs CAN be used on beaches in dry sand and work fairly well in wet sand too
with certain adjustments. I guess your decision on which you do the most will be your main
consideration.
Good Luck!

Great all around machine, punches deep, very easy to pinpoint with, chest mounts too, built like a tank and you can dive to 200Ft. with it. Batteries last forever. Chatters some in the saltwater like any other single frequency machine so you turn the sensitivity down some and off you go. Good Luck.

IDive,I have used a CZ20 on land and if hip mounted its not too bad.s The CZ20 is try ed and prov en as one of the better saltwater units. This CZ also has great depth and good tone target ID and pinpoints very well..
