Been hunting a little Ghost Town near the TN River for a little over a year. It has quiet a few scattered Civil War relics as many troops moved through the area. I have been fortunate enough to find a few virgin home sites although the main part (city square) of the town has been beat to death. The town was officially started in 1812 and thrived until the end of the war but by 1870's it was in severe decline. Commerce coming in on the river was lost to railroad and coal mines started in a nearby town and pulled all the labor. Now there is literally no sign it was ever there. Only one of the early homes is still standing. Got permission from a couple of folks that own the majority of the land now. Went on Google Earth and saw a promising area this morning. I hit the woods and found a home site within 30 minutes. Appears to have been a really small one so not expecting many coins. Only one chimney and small foundation. This one appears to have been occupied through the 1920's and not sure it was one of the really early homes yet, as I am not digging the flat buttons like I have in the others. Oddly enough have found virtually no coins at any of the sites including the ones that are obviously virgin and loaded with flat buttons and assorted relics. Was a little under the weather so hunted it about an hour then scouted around it for another one (have a reason to be anxious to find it). Well worth going back to, but loaded with rotten cans and mason jar lids. Got a 1910 and 1912 wheat, locket lid or something, thimble, harmonica, and a ton of junk ha ha. Gonna put the little coil on the T2 when I go back.
Wouldn't let me upload several of the pics of the site itself.
