Hello Everyone,
My wife and I went to the beach in June and I saw a man with a metal detector, which brought back memories of when I was just a kid. When I was about 18 or 19 I purchased a WW II mine detector from the local A&N Store and went relic hunting. On the first day, I went to a farm and found enough Civil War bullets to fill a pint jar. The man who owned the farm said his grandfather claimed the Stonewall Brigade had used an old tree for target practice and I had found the hole in the ground where the tree stood. However now there is an EXXON station it is all paved over. While at the beach my wife convinced me to buy a new metal detector so we went to store and I purchased an ACE 100.
As soon as we came home and did some research I sold my ACE 100 and purchased a GTP 1350. So here I am retired in February, bought a computer, got on line, and subscribed to Western & Eastern Treasure Magazine and having a blast.
I just love Garrett GTP 1350, it sure beats a WWII mine detector. So far I have found 487 coins, one diamond ring which a young lady lost at the beach, this made me a hero for about 10 minutes. I just came from a local park where I found 6 coins and a pocket knife.
As you can see, I also found this web site and have enjoyed it very much. Hope to hear from some of you all real soon.

Welcome Aboard, John D.!! You made a good decision in getting the 1350 and getting rid of the 100. Much more machine and a real nice all-around detector. Will be looking forward to some posts from you in the furure. Good luck and happy hunting!!

From theland of the Bluenose...at first I thought you were the Johnnie D from Truro but that poor bouy is not retired. Welcome to the hobby and the forum. 31 years a garrett swinger here. Happy hunting and looking forward to reading your posts!

The GTP 1350 is my general all around machine. It gets great depth with the stock coil, and once you get that machine figured out, it becomes a great dependable friend! Keep us informed on your finds John.

Hello Everybody,
I found my 502nd coins today, my goal was 500 before the first frost. Guess I will have to up my goal a few 100 or so.
Please forgive me until I learn the ins and outs of this forum. I am new at computers.
Your new found friend,
John D.
PS If I could not replace my GTP1350, I would not take $2000.00 for it.

Well good morning All,
I went detecting last Friday and when I finished I left my brand new pointer and digging tool on top of my Jeep; well you know "The rest of the story". However there is a bright side, I went to my friendly GARRETT dealer with my story and as we were chatting I mentioned how my earphones were acting up. I have a pair that I bought at STAPLES and they have an adapter that makes them compatible with my 1350; however I have trouble with them going dead from time to time. My dealer talked me into buying a pair of GARRET earphones and boy do they make a difference! Out of the nearly 550 coins I have found, only 38 have been nickles, and most of them were found with other coins. Well today after an hour of hunting in the park, I now have 19 coins to add to my collection and 5 are nickles.
LESSON LEARNED "GOOD HEADPHONES DO MATTER."
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!!

I just returned from a 3 week stint with the Red Cross in Gulfport MS,my old stomping grounds from the Sea Bee days. It has been raining here in VA, however the weather is perfect for detecting as soon as the rain stops. I have really enjoyed the advise and humor and have learned a lot about metal detecting from this forum.
Does anyone make a rain shield for the great GTP 1350 which has become a very good friend of mine and I want to protect my friend?
PS I also joined a local club before I left for MS.

Well it looks like the detecting bug bit you and infected you. Welcome to a lovely addiction. Will look forward to seeing pics of your finds. By the way, Charles Garrett started out with a WWII mine detector as did many of the oldtimers.

Hello and Happy New Year to All,
Well if this morning is any indication of my finds for 2006, then I will have a good year. I found 20 coins, 8 in one hole, two pieces of wrought iron door hardware and some misc. junk. It has been raining here in VA. for about 4 days and boy did my 1350 go deep today. Found the 8 coins in about 8-10" of sand.
By the way, I purchased a WIZARD Vib-Probe made by Wizard Industries Inc. and took it for a test and it performed just great. It seem to be very inexpensive compared to another probe I bought last year, however it work just as good if not better. The only problem I had was it has a sound/vibrate mode and I could not hear the sound with my earphones on.
Well I have to go, I am hungry and dirty from a great hunt. Hope to hear from some of you all soon.
John D.

I know it's the pits but you can tough it out. Think of how much energy you'll have stored up by the time it gets there. HA.
