New Hobby and Leaving for Mexico soon

Hello Everyone, I'm new to the hobby and leaving for Mexico on November 8th thru 22nd 2010. We have a resort condo in Puerto Vallarta and want to do some metal detecting there on the beach. I just bought a Fisher F70 and all the accessories. We noticed last year that the "Mexican QVC" is always on the beach selling silver and jewelry and found quite few items that fell out of their suitcases without a metal detector and wondered how much more we would find WITH one. Is it easy to travel Continental Airlines with a detector? and what should I do and how should I package it for the least amount of scrutiny/security questions? Has anyone ever used their detector on the beach down there and what kind of problems would I encounter while n doing it: for example, will I need a permit or something? Actually, our condo is in Nuevo at the Playa Del Sol Grand right next to the RIU. If anyone is familiar please contact us back. We have been owners down there since 2000 and this is the first time we are taking a metal detector. Would appreciate any info you have on this, thanx,
