Can anyone tell me if they have upgraded to the newer headphones on their excalibur (blue to yellow head phones)? or if some has bought the newer excalibur already with the yellow headphones and has noticed the differance
MineLab wants about $80.00,for the upgrade and you must send the unit to them.

with the Yellow Koss headphones.

A little less than one month ago, I hunted with Mike at Virginia Beach. His machine has the original Blue MineLab headphones. What a difference. His were so much better that I'm surprised MineLab switched to Koss. The tone range is that much more broad and clear than the Yellow headphones and this is my 2nd Excal with the Yellow ones so it isn't like the machine has tonal issues.

Do yourself a favor and keep your Blue headphones. Hope and pray they never give out on you because you will be very disappointed with the Yellow ones.

Yes Wayne, I did upgrade (from old blues to yellow Koss) and they are better quality, especially staying on my head. I paid $70 for the upgrade and I feel like it was a good move, however, next time in will probably have the Grey Ghost's installed. Have heard great things about their audio quality, over stock. My friend coastwise said that his were defective and they replaced them under his warranty.

n/t

Or you could send the unit in, like I will and have those same headphones hardwired and maintain your warranty, if there is any left. Can't wait to see what all the hoopla is about! I gotta have a set of those. GH

Yeah, no lie...didn't sound like much of an "upgrade" to me. The tonal quality on the yellow ones is horrible.

with the waterproof plug. As long as Minelab does the work and puts the plug on, it doesn't void your warranty for the unit. The Grey Ghosts are very comfortable to a point where you do not even realize they are on your head......the audio is much better than the stock headphones. The reason for the plug is if you accidental drop those headphones on the pavement and break them, you have a backup set right away......just like Max suggested. Also we put 12" SunRay coils on both our machines(that does void out the warranty)and we have found that it works much better than the stock coil especially covering more ground in the water where there is little trash....and pinpointing is very precise with this coil.

TY Bobbie, thinking strongly about at least trying a set of the phones. I like the stock 10" coil and my warranty! So much of my hunting is in deep water, with current, that I think a larger coil would be unruly, sometimes even the 10" is a bear to keep level on the bottom.

then that larger coil is a little tougher to handle although it is lighter. Where we hunt, there is not much in the way of tough currents so it is an easy swing for us.

The Grey Ghosts are worth the money!!.....you will not be sorry. Also they are good at muffling out the sound of the wind and waves.

Hey Max, how much did Minelab charge for the female plug mod? My original blue Minelab headphones are starting to deteriorate and I'm looking to go with the Grey Ghost phones. Also, what was the turnaround time for the Minelab service? Thanks, Mike.
