Hello all, I'm new in the forums as you can see. I'm new with metal detecting also. I purchased a Bounty Hunter Legacy 3300 from Dick's sports shop a few weeks ago and haven't even had a chance to use it yet. I'm up in Maine at the moment and the ground is pretty darn hard right now. I've been practicing indoors, shooting coins through a piece of cardboard to develope my pinpointing technique. My BH is pretty user friendly and I've also purchased the BH pinpointer from an outfit on ebay for $50. I bought it mostly because of the low cost compared to others. I'd read of people losing the battery covers from the BH pinpointer and sure enough, mine is loose so I taped it in place like others have done. I got a coil cover and a Lesche digging tool (expensive little bugger!) after reading these forums. (There's a lot of great info here) I'll be needing a sand scoop next - and based on what I read here - a stainless one, but I need to let my credit card cool down a little first. I've attached pics of two scoops I am looking at. I wondered if anyone has had experience with either one. I like the red handled one but it looks like the handle could break off easily. Both are made of stainless steel. Any comments?

I travel alot, mostly between Maine and the Florida Keys with my motor home. I am a disabled vet and retired so I got lots of time to kill. I don't tow a car but I bring my Harley Davidson with me and I need to devise a way to carry my BH on the bike. Bungie cords I guess... Anyway that's me - looking forward to coin shooting mostly, up and down the east coast and where ever else I end up. If anyone has any tips regarding the Legacy 3300, please do post them. Thanks!

Hi RoadGang,

Welcome to you.

I have a BH 3300 from a year ago and have since upgraded to a Fisher F4 which takes the same coils. Both units are really amazing.

I have a similar scoop to the yellow handled one but it is of galvanized steel. I use it on California beaches and am well satisfied. Of course the stainless is better but more pricy. I got mine of the forums used for $20. I've seen it occasionally on eBay too.

Best of luck..be patient and enjoy the hobby.

HH Joe

Hey new Guy, I have the smaller hand held one, with the orange handle. It works fine. I carry it with me all the time and even dirt will pass through it. One draw back: it is made of metal and will set off the detector if it is too close. On some of these forums, people explain how to make your own if you want to try that. Welcome!:bounty:
