Hello all.

My name is Randy Carmichael and I live in Cambridge Illinois, but frequently go to Peoria as my family is from around that area. I am waiting on the delivery of my just purchased Garrett "AT Pro". I guess it was back ordered; hopefully it will be here in the next couple of weeks.

I am very interested in MDing and am trying to do some research on the laws regarding it in Illinois. There seems to be bits and pieces everywhere on the net. I will look forward to participating in this forum as well as possibly meeting some of you.

Thanks

Randy, Welcome to the wide world of detecting. You will have a blast. The club here has many awesome people in it. The best place in the area here to mine geodes is Jacobs Geodes on the south side of town here. There has been some really nice geodes that have come out of Gary's place. Here is the phone number to call. 217-847-3509 Once again welcome.

Hi Randy. Welcome to the forum and we hope you can make it to one or more of our club meetings. We have a member in Kewanee, maybe you can hitch a ride with him. Some of us get over in your part of the state from time to time. We are active campers and have camped in Kewanee, Prophetstown and Galesburg and we just got back from a weekend in Monmouth yesterday.

Robbie is a good guy to know for geode hunting and Daryl also knows the geode hunting hobby well too.

Hi Randy, Welcome to the forum. As for Illinois laws on metal detecting........each town has their own rules and regulations. Some can and some can't. As for State Parks, here's a listing: http://www.dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/programs/dayuse/metaldetect.htm most State Parks require a personal permission slip to validate your detecting. We're here to help out if we can. Hope you get your new detector soon. HH, Nancy

Robbie,

Thanks for the tip. The family had a great time, where else can you take a 3 year old and turn him loose with a hammer and shovel. We even picked up a few good ones.

No problem Randy. Now you need to get with some of the club members and do some detecting.

After some questioning, KellyCo said that they may be 3 or more weeks out with the AT PRO.

I have changed my order to the Fisher F-5 with double D coil, will have it this Friday!

I'm surprised that they didn't come out and tell you right off the bat that they didn't have them in stock. :rage: That's terrible! HH, Nancy

You must not have done any business with them lately. I have boycotted them. Worst customer service ever.

Well i received my F-5, seems to be a good little box. I have been hitting the Henry county fairgrounds, it is nice to live a mile away from it, and am up to about a dollar in change. All newer except one wheat, a 1945.

I am still trying to figure it all out, lots of numbers and blips and bleeps, what do they all mean?????:)

 The more you use it, the more you'll get to know it. Congrats on the wheat. Keep it up and thanks for posting. HH, Nancy

Go getum Randy.....:clapping:

Yes, Randy. We even had a weekend club hunt at Buffalo Shores, Nancy found her first gold ring there. Steve C is active in their club and each club has hosted hunts for the other club.

Steve C. would know the scoop on that place, I bet.

:surrender: A very big NO Detecting in Black Hawk Park in Rock Island. That is a Indian Historical Site and there are many burial mounds.

Steve is of course correct. I had a very good conversation with the park manager. I knew all about the Indian history in the park and was only wanting/looking at the areas that have been built upon and re-built upon and are now cleared like where the amusement rides and such have been and old structures.

I love this park, me and my 3 and one half year old son have a great time exploring the trails and woods with him leading the way most of the time.

For anybody visiting the area i think it is a must see. It is sad but this park is like the Statue of Liberty in New York in that the only time most locals go there is as kids on a field trip.

Thanks
