Hi There. Very very new at the hobby. last week in fact I bought my first detector. A used Fisher 1236. Have played with it some in the yard and found some nails, a couple old aluminum cans and an axe head.
This week I came across an opportunity to buy a one year old MXT for 350.00 and am jumping on it. Logistics are such that it isn't happening until Friday but I downloaded the manual to study and then found this website which looks to have a wealth of information!
Just wanted to say howdy and introduce myself.
I'm sure I'll be back with lots of questions!
Cheers!
Mike

A very sincere welcome, Mike. The MXT is an all around detector and one of a few that will find gold nuggets. If you use it and practice with it, it will be the best detector you ever had. Like everything, except me, all things are not perfect so there will be a period of adjustment. It will be like a good marriage....jim

Thanks folks!
I'm realy looking forward to gettin started. The job takes me to Alaska frequently and I wonder if there are any nuggets left up there.
Cheers!

set the threshold to where you just hear it.sweep the coil,,,,,,,,listen,,,,listen to the sound of the hits..yes the MXT does talk..like years ago when you needed to learn DOS. listen to your MXT,,,,,,,,,,,,,and learn.

Welcome aboard Mike! You jumped on the right machine at a darn good price! I've had mine for over 8 yrs. and it's still one of the best machines out there in my opinion. My hubby has had the DFX, a couple of Minelabs and now the V-3 and I still feel I can keep right up with him. Yes, he has more bells and whistles, but I can turn my machine on and go. You will too once you get to know your MXT and it's not hard at all to learn. Like others have said, "It will pay for itself in no time". Over and over again and you will love it for nugget hunting. We've had some wonderful experienced nugget hunters here and they found the GOLD! Hillbilly Bob was one that comes to mind and he was a gold magnet when using his MXT. We're here for you and good luck, Nancy

With the three options designed into the MXT and the excellent assortment of coils for it you are getting one of the most versatile machines available today IMHO. I really like mine and think you will too. Take the time to get familiar with it and listen carefully to the audio. Even though it doesn't have a bunch of tones it still has a language of its own and I've come to listen first, then check the display. Between the two you'll get to be pretty darn accurate at determining goodies versus trash, but it takes some time to put that all together. You need to put in lots of hours detecting. Hate it when that happens, LOL.
Good luck and good hunting,
BB
