New guy with an explorer se

Hi everyone, just joined this forum. I just bought a used explorer se for 850 with included two extra coils.Just got it in the mail yesterday and its in beautiful condition, only used a few times.I have been using the same detector for 16 years(fisher 1266x)wgich is a great machine but I can tell the se has great potential as I went out for only two hours and didnt find anything worth while but I did find a tiny copper piece about 8 inches deep and the signal was strong. This was in the most "hunted out" grove in my area! Iv found many indian heads and seated silver there myself in the past and have a feeling I will find even more as I learn the power of this machine! I know I have alot of learning to do but Im patiant and I know I will be rewarded. I have lots of places to go over and im really excited about this machine. Im sure I will be learning alot from this forum.I was trying to set some of the settings and I think it was just confusing me as im used to a turn on and go detector.Im just gonna start with the factory settings for awhile till I learn what its trying to tell me.

Congrats on the new unit; like you say, it's a good one! And yes, starting out with factory settings will do you well for awhile, until you begin to learn the unit and it's "language."

SWING SLOW with this one...and scrub the ground as much as possible when sweeping the coil. Slow and low, as they say...and you will be rewarded. Before long, you will hear that silver "tinkle"...

Go slow..You can not swing it like a 1266.

Which coils did you get ??

The coils that came with are the slimline, the dd pro and 4inch dd excelerator. I have the pro one on right now and yes I did notice I cant swing it like the 1266.I gotta try to get out of that habit. Im really excited to get out there again but now they want rain for the next 2 days or so! Just my luck, but here in pa we really need it.

I meant to say the 6 in dd coil and the 10.5 x 11 pro coil :)

[size=large]i'd suggest getting the book,"The Minelab Explorer and E-Trac Handbook", by Andy Sabisch. jmo if you own an explorer you should own the book. very helpful. i also would add that the 8x6 SEF coil is a great size coil for the explorer.
