New Guy with a new toy need advise

Afteroon all...
New treasure hunter here....wife got me an anniversary gift, Garrett AT PRO...awesome gift. I have been following your Forum for a few weeks now. sounds like a place i would like to hang out...ok, down to business, I am leaving for vacation on the beach this weekend. I know very little about my new toy other than the reading and video's...planning on learning on the beach...my question..please help me with a setting for looking on the beach..looking at Std / Zero low disc..looking for any advise...do not mind digging...THANKS

Let some folks know what type of beach U R gonna hunt? , and U will get some better help. Good luck with your machine.

I run Pro mode, sens at max( but you might have to back it off some if your in real mineralized sand), zero Disc. iron disc at 35. iron audio on. Just the way I set up my PRO. Good luck and post your finds. Gold hit low on the VDI numbers.

That would be a fine way to learn your detector, how deep it can go, the audio etc. I like your attitude...."do not mind digging". That type of thinking will get you the good finds that a lot of people didn't think were worth digging.

If I have Iron DISC in play, I usually run with Iron Audio off, or it drains the batteries in a quick way...I only turn it on to check a target...I normally run in Pro Zero, Zero iron DISC, Iron Audio ON, and nothing notched out...I dig ALL repeatable and strong signals above 32...Most 30-45 signals are junk, but every now and then, you may be surprised what shows up in the 32-40 range...I have found some thin chains in this range...also square nails come in at 32-35 for me...Remember that is your on a Salt wate beach, to drop your GB by about 5-10 from what it sets at until your stable...

HH,

Sorry ......headed to Florida..Mexico Beach. really looking foward to this trip and detecting..thanks for the replys..making notes.

AT Pro Dos well over here on the west coast beaches of Florida.. Just be sure to ground balance when your going from Dry sand to wet . and in the water ... Good luck with the At pro . I have one and I really like it ...

Might have to reduce sensitivity some to stabilize machine.

Run zero, as much sensitivity as you can without chatter, with as little discrimination as you can stand. otherwise, your ears get tired if you are in a heavy iron area. i usually keep iron audio off. dig everything at first to learn how the AT works. you will learn quickly. when im at the beach i pretty much dig everything anyway.

on the beaches I run in pro zero mode and GB around 15 in dry sand and 9 when in the water or wet sand...Sense I adjust while I go but start off one bar below max...with the larger coil you probably will need to turn sese down to about 3 bars from max or until the chatter stops. When swinging you will get some falsing from touching the coil to the sand so when you hear a good sound swing over slow and see if it is real or not. I would start out in standard mode and go from there...hope this helps and good luck :)

THANKS for the responses, headed to Mexico Beach in the morning for a week...hope to learn much and to have some good finding other than cleaning the beach...:detecting:

You might want to get a cheap sand scoop...then you can upgrade later, you might like digging but doing it when you can just scoop and shake for shallow coins is a waste of energy...you could always get the wife who bought you it to do all the digging...tell her your just helping her enjoy the detecting too....lol
