New guy with a Garrett 300

I just got my early Christmas present, a Garrett 300. My first task is to find one of my property markers. I just spent about two hours hunting for it with no success. I've found barbed wire, pop tops, a drink can, and many very small pieces of wire. I am hoping to get some suggestions of what settings to use to aid my search. I thought a big iron/steel spike should be easy to find.
Thanks,
John,
Grand Bay, Alabama

Should be 1/2" dia rebar

I'd get a chunk of same, scan over the end, notch that in and everything else, notch out.

Shouldn't be deep

It should red somewhere in the left of the screen in iron. You can notch out all the icons (small black squares) from the pull-tabs to the right on the screen. That should make it easier.
