New guy needs BH Land Ranger info?

New guy to this great forum. I was trying to figure out how long I have been MDing. My first and only MD is a Land Ranger. I see it is a discontinued model now. The manual has a 2002 Copyright date. Is that about the time that they came out? I think it was a better than average BH model at the time. Reading many of the posts on the different forums here at findmall it seems the LR has many of the same features found on the newer models. How does it stand up in performance with the newer models? Is anyone else out there still using the LR? Just curious.

The Time Ranger underwent a major design revision in 2003, and I assume that at the same time we revised the manual (a couple features were changed) and stuck a new copyright date on it. If your machine was made earlier than about September of 2003 (which would seem to be the case), it's an earlier version.

The earlier unit had its fans, but I didn't think much of it. The revised unit performed a lot better and was more reliable. However since that time we've developed new products which perform as well or better, and are more user-friendly.

Thanks for the reply. Since I have become semi retired recently I have renewed my interest in MD`ing. I ordered a new Teknetics T2 SE, which should be here tomorrow, but wanted to know how the BH LR stacked up. I only found and registered to this forum a few days ago. In that time I posted a few messages, and read many posts by other members. This has increased my understanding of the MD`ers set up and use. I now understand the manual better, and how to set things on my LR. This information I am sure will also help with my T2 when I get it. I set up a test patch in my back yard today and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I detected a little less trash, and found all 12 objects (coins, jewelery) that some one else planted. I plan on going to a nearby park Tuesday morning after Labor Day to practice my new knowledge, and tweak my machine for conditions. I know now the more I swing and dig the more I will learn.
