New guy looking for info on older XLT Spectrum E series

Hi:

I have been using a mid priced Bounty Hunter for about 3 months now and I like it so far. I've gone to the local parks and have a great time with it. I just
went buy a local pawn shop and they have a Whites Xlt Spectrum E-Series with a Rainbow decal on the coil. I opened the battery area and there is some thing there
a black pack .The coil is 10 or more inches?.Can any one here tell me how old the machine is? any way to do a self test ? or find any version of the software in it?
would this detector be able to use this larger coil see here.

If I can get the detector for less than $300.00 if it will work would it be a good upgrade from the Bounty Hunter or is it so old ?

Thanks
Scott Hannah

if it has a rainbow sticker on the side it is a "spectrum" not a "E-series" 2 different machines "E" is black and gold on the side. The rainbow indicates it is a first generation XLT. That's not a bad thing they say the only diff from old and new is the labels, I have the rainbow and love it!!

The battery you need to pull out and see if the "black box" has a sliding cover or is the rechargeable type if the cover slides it uses 8 AAA batteries, if it's the charger type see if they have the charging cord.

when you turn it on it will tell you what software it's running. as for testing ask to go out side, when you turn it on it let it go through it's little thing, and when it ask you if you want to use a preset program I would just pull the trigger below the screen and let go. It's on the back side, throw some coins on the ground and see if it identifies them. If it does pull the trigger and hold it and run the coil over a coin and see if it will pinpoint to 0.0 since the coin is on the top it should read 0.0 if it does that pull the coil up and see if it starts to count up IE. 1,1.5,2 etc.

if all that works see if he'll come down just to see if won't $300 is still a good price if it's in good shape.

Oh and that coil won't work but there's others.

good luck and H.H.:pulltab:
