I heard about this forum from a member of a car site that I am a moderator on so I checked it out. Pretty cool site! I have been metal detecting since the late 1970s. Started out with a Whites Coinmaster IV then a Tesoro Inca then a Toltec 100. In the early 90s I purchased a Whites Eagle Spectrum from Ralph at Sunray. Took a long time but figured it out and have a number of coins to show for it! Ralph knew I was looking for a Minelab so he calls me in early May and hooks me up with a customer who sold me an Explorer SE. After reading the owners manual and going thru the Andy S. book I hit the field. I only have maybe 8 hours on it but found around 75 coins. All clad. I feel that once I learn more about this machine I will go back to some old areas that I haven't hunted in years! In the first week of June I got real ill and ended up at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where it was discovered I had a brain hemmorage. Not good! Dec. 2nd I go in for surgery and hope to get back out there hunting within the year! Great forum here and I hope to learn more!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and wishes! I had some restrictions lifted on Nov.7th. Asked the doc if I could metal detect. He told me to have fun! Too bad it got cold. So I spend a lot of time doing research. I will beat this thing and get back out there! I am curious to see if the SE will beat the Spectrum as I have had a lot of success with it!

Thought I would give everyone here an update. I have been home for two weeks now recovering. The doctors removed two damaged blood vessels and shrunk the mass by about 70%. So far there has not been any problems! I go back in January to discuss radiation treatments to remove the remaining mass. I should have full recovery in 1-3 years! In the meantime I will try to get some more research done and play with the SE in the house. While looking thru the site here I found the section on doing map overlays that will help if I can figure it out! I am not too computer smart! From my family to yours...I want to wish each and everyone a great Holiday season! Ted
