Hi RustyD, I too am new to the site and the hobby. I just purchased a BH IV myself. Here's to happy hunting and new friends !

Same. New here. My wife bought me a BH Tracker IV for Xmas. I've been playing with it and have a nice collection of pull tabs already. :bouncy:

My wife got me a BH Sharp Shooter II for Christmas. I have never used a metal detector before. I live in central Wisconsin so the ground is froze and snow covered so I guess I will have to wait for spring to try it.

Im also new here,i live in New Zealand, wife bought me bh 505 for xmas and have been playing with it,found lots of pull tabs and a few coins and 1 small silver ring, also lots of aluminium cans but it is a fun hobby, get lots of strange looks though, guess people here in New Zealand arent used to this hobby as there are few of us around.

Last summer while digging in the front yard to make a flower garden for my wife,I found an Indian head penny. Now that I have a detector I can hardly wait to see what the rest of my yard has in it.
Now a question: What is the best thing to use to clean the green tarnish off the penny?

Y'all are gonna love Treasure Hunting , Remember to dig every signal and cover your holes back up.
I have found everthing from coins to a gun just in my Own Yard, so U never know what U will find.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Karl

Nice of you to joins us Rusty. Dont dig em all,Save me some.

Welcome Rusty....and if you want to post a pic......just click on the Upload File...which is on the upper left side of the box where you type a message. Then you just open the folder where your pic is stored in your computer...double click on pic to highlight it.....and your good to go.
My opinion........don't try to clean the green patina off the coin......it destroys the value and looks artificial......for copper it is just best to soak it in olive oil for a few months to soften up encrustation..then wipe with a cloth. Cardinal rule......cleaning coins reduces/destroys value of coins.

Try to keep the photo's resolution at 1024x768 or less. If a digital photo you have to be careful that picture is not some super high mega-pixel ratio. You may have problems uploading it.
