Hello guys and gals, I am new to this hobby, I have a BH quick silver. I might have about 8 hours on.
I have found so far 3 pull tab cans. 2 .22 shell casings and a rusty nail and screw. Still getting used to this machine.
thanks in advance guys.

If you have any questions about operating your machine. There many knowledgeable people on this forum..
Again, Welcome !!

Hi Omegakaiten, you're finds sounds about right for someone just starting the hobby. I can remember my first finds when i started out, Which was "cigarette pack foils and steel pop caps by the hundreds for me. If you hang in there you will find the good finds eventually. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thanks guys, i was getting pretty frustrated for a bit there. Seems there is a great group of people here thanks for all the positive comments :)

The quicksilver is a good machine to start with, ease of use and good quality. I started with one too :) I personally would reject just Iron ans run sensitivity/depth high, good luck!

Thought I'd introduce myself. Not new to metal detecting, however the Pioneer 505 is the first BH metal detector I 've owned or used. I can honestly say that for the money it's also the best. I started out during the days of the BFO detectors. My first detector in 1968 was a cheap $19.95 one that I ordered from a magazine ad (I believe it was either a Jetco or a Relco). My second detector was a Whites Coinmaster I bought in 1975 both detectors were BFO types and lacked meters and didn't discriminate. Yes, I dug up lots of junk back in those days, but then I didn't have much of a choice. Back then metal detectors with discriminators were very expensive and those with that feature often missed valuable targets because it wasn't as good as it is in modern machines. If I had my 505 back then, think of the treasures I would have found.

I'm a newbie too as I'm still learning things and trying new settings or different detectors. I have the Pioneer Ex, which is pretty much identical to the quicksilver. I gave it a good thrashing, comparing it target-by-target to BH's top of the line units and it held its own. Good fast response and solid ID. Lacks some depth, but the 7" coil makes up for that with sharp response to targets. Deep targets on any detector tend to give a less reliable ID, so if you restrict yourself to targets with solid ID, that evens things out a bit in the depth department.

Swing and enjoy! There's room to grow if your interest in the hobby grows over time.

Hello I'm an old new guy. I love my 505, but still learning. Trying to get out before the ground freezes. I do have a dumb question. How do you guys clean your coins?

Welcome Omegakaiten,, my first detector was a Bounty Hunter Landstar and I still have it, a good machine in my book, don't get discouraged go to some parks and check those areas where kids play and adults gather,,good finds will come... As for KNMIB1's question on cleaning coins,, I use an old electric Ice-cream freezer I bought at the thrift store for about 5 bucks took the stir-er out, pour some vinegar about 3 cups or so add a little rock salt and play sand, lean the freezer over slightly and turn on, in about 30 minutes most will be clean, after a while the cooper will ad-hear to the walls of the aluminum can and will eventually turn your clad pink, so to combat this I took a plastic coffee container and use the top to the freezer and glued it to the bottom of the coffee container and mounted the motor upside down in the freezer...Note: clean your cooper and clad separate, never never clean your silver this way, this is just for good zincs, cooper and clad only... so you can roll them and turn them in to buy more detecting goodies..
