I was lucky enough to be given a Garrett GTI-1500 this week. I've always been a White's user so this will be like starting all over again. I'm hoping to try it out this weekend at a couple of old home places. I haven't detected in over a year so we'll see what happens.

Good luck. You've got a great machine. Garretts are a little different so don't use it like you used a White. Scan slow with this one and run your sensitivity at about 6.5 to start with. Centering the target correctly is critical with a GTI.

I've relic hunted with a GTI 1500 that I had and did good with it. Depth is the same as your whites. I have ran both units and a fisher also. They all have about the same depth give or take a little. I found a silver dime with my GTI 1500 at 8+ inches before ( No Lie ). I now run a GTI 2500. You should do well with it. Do as uncle willy said and keep us posted on how you are doing with it.

Thank you all for the replies. I've always used White's but I'm glad I finally got a chance to try something different. In air tests the 1500 seems to do very well. I'm going to an old house place today where I've found some barber and seated coins before. Hopefully I didn't clean it out.
