New GT Shipped Today

Hi All,

Well I ordered a new GT over the weekend, and he said he sent it today.

I can't wait to try it on our local beach.

I got a special from his website called a "pro pack".

It included a hipmount bag, alkaline battery pack, a 12v charge adaptor, RPG headphones, minelab finds bag and a book on gems (??).

All for the same price the others had on the machine only.

I also got a coin trowel, plastic sand scoop and a Garrett pro pointer on the way.

I have already downloaded the manual, and have the Clynick book, so I'm studying up before it gets here.

Funnily enough, the wife is keen as mustard as well.

Cheers,

Hey Oz,
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your brandy new Soveriegn GT .......You will have a ball with it ......Enjoy !!.....Jim

I'm a little new with the Sovereign GT but in less than a month it has just about paid for it self. Your going to love how deep this thing can go. When you hit the beach you may want to go with a nice strong sand scoop with a handle.Whether in a park, field or beach the Sovereign gets it done. Enjoy and HH.

Just give it lots of time. As experienced as I was before getting this machine it just about gave me fits when it came to screw caps and such until I learned it. Even sizing targets is a bit different on this machine. Not harder, just different.

Ditto on everything said above. Welcome (BTW) I have had mine out on 3 hunts now on a salt beach. make sure you have a set of head phones with adj volume controls. IT GETS LOUD!!

Congrads on the new machine Oz, keeps us up on your treasures.....joe

Thanks all,

I'll stick with it, and bug you all for settings to suit the conditions I encounter (after I consult the manual, search the forum and try trial and error on site).

BCNJ, it's an Australian site called treasure Enterprises.

I am in Australia, by the way.

Cheers again all!

Don't know what your used to but a coin trowel isn't much use for beach work, make sure you have a good shovel/spade with you, you can even cut it down width wise for dirt fishing.
Have patience and take your time is all i can recomend at this point
HH

It arrived today!!

I've found a roofing screw and a vintage beer can in my back yard!!

I'm waiting for the rubber toggle covers and I'll hit the beach!!

Also, remember when you hunt in sand, salt or fresh, the locking device for the lower shaft tends to get fouled by sand. Clean it, or you might find yourself having a difficult time getting it if off. I know.

I posted a How-To on installing the boots in this thread along with some tips from the guy at Dixie Detectors who seems to always stock the boots. If you can't find it let me know and I'll dig up a link. Mainly first make sure the switches are clean by turning the control box upside down, flipping them back and fourth, and blowing air into them. Then use needle nose pliers to hold the switch by the tip of it's toggle while you loosen the nut. Once you get it off slide the boot on by holding the switch near the base of the toggle with needle nose pliers until you get the boot to slide over the tip. Slide the boot down and then try to hold the switch straight up and down (the toggle part) with the needle nose pliers (pull outward lightly) as you tighten the nut. Just do NOT over tighten it. Hand snug it and then use a wrench to maybe turn it an 8th to 1/4th turn or so. Those switches will strip easily if you over tighten them. I know from experience building other projects.

Thanks for that advice.

I couldn't find that post with the search function.

Should I bother fitting these, or just leave them as is?

Cheers again.

I also was unable to find it. Critterhunter, will you please post the link? Thanks

I bought these boots for less than a dollar each at JACAR in Launceston (Australia wide Electronics store)
They come with two hex nuts and a knurled ring so you have some choice. I won't say they are completely water proof (but neither is the Sov), but they are very snug, sand and rain proof.
I just installed them over the top of the existing retaining nuts. I feel they are quite adequate for my needs. Can supply contact details and part numbers if requested.
