I bought a used GTI 2000 with 9.5" imaging coil. The machine is nice, well balanced, and easy to set up. I took it out on 2 days of learning at some of my normal spots. I had a normal amount of finds (30 or so coins each day) with very little trash. The problem I had was no coin was recovered over 4" deep. The areas are trashy but I know there are deeper coins there. Also noticed the machine would false allot if I hit a stick or something on the ground (just seamed touchy). So these are the setting I was using:

Disc coin, but I notch out the middle area to just 1 below the penny and left the 2 for nickle.
Sens between 8 and 9.5 any higher I got allot of fasling.

The guy I was hunting with had a Minelab Explorer II, so when he found a couple of good deeper signals i went over and check them.

First time, not a peep it was a wheat penny at 7"
Second time, Broken non repeating signal it was a wheat penny at 5"

So if any of you Garrett veterans have any input I would be very Thankful

...What size coil was your Minelab pal using? I suspect the problem was trash masking with that big old Imaging coil.

Drop the sensitivity down to 6 or 6.5. then work your way back up as conditions allow. Make sure the first wind of the cable goes over the top of the shaft and is snug. Return to factory settings for notch or just reboot the detector. Scan slow with the coil at least an inch or more off the ground. Scorcher coils aren't fond of scrubbing.

I field tested the 2000 when it first came out and it will go deeper than you care to dig. Do an air test and see what kind of depth you come up with. It will give you a general idea of what to expect in the ground. If you're looking for really deep coins ( an they are present ) switch to all metal.
