New Garrett Searcher and a Great Friday Hunt

I went out a couple of hours ago to do laundry and took along a fews days mail to sort and read and came across the latest issue of the Searcher. I was really shocked to see they had printed my testimonial from the "favorite find contest" from a few months ago.

I had a great hunt this morning. One of my longest ever at 5.5 hours, more like 7 hours with driving and lunch,at three locations. Pictured are two 925 Italian bracelets (the tennis bracelet was a serious Nitro moment, marked 925 and CZ, weight 10.42 grams, larger bracelet 14.05 grams), 1934 Mercury Dime, A handful (6) of Wheat's, Gold Plated "I Love You" Ring, part of a Chain (possibly 925) with one pink dolphin, junk earring, softball letter pin. I found some toy cars which I gave to my 3 year old helper and 3 pairs of broken sunglasses which I tossed. I had never found any before today, go figure.

Not pictured is a 1909 V Nickel that I nicked with my digger, I stuck it in my good finds pouch and was pretty sad to see that it had oxidized terribly in the time between having taken it out of the ground and getting it home. It was in some pretty wet ground. I have it in some olive oil now hoping it will look a little better. This same thing has happened with all the Buffalo Nickels I have found.

Additionally, 124 modern coins many of which were zinc pennies for a total of $11.84. One site produced 30 coins, 15 of which were quarters, one site produced 90 coins only 12 of which were quarters but all the jewelry came at that site, the third site produced all the old coins and only 4 modern coins and a lot of old junk. I couldn't stay there as long as I wanted to because it is right on the river and the wind was blowing like mad and my knuckles were frozen stiff.

Finally, I sent off all my gold rings, except for one, to be melted down and turned into a few silver rounds and a check. I am guessing the check will be around $400-$500 depending on where gold is early next week. I had the price of $800/ounce in my mind for a while and when I saw where it closed today off it went to Midwest Refineries. If anybody is interested in the rest of the transaction I will post a followup. I am keeping all the silver I have found but did send off 10 sterling spoons I recently bought at a garage sale with the gold. I paid $2.50 for the spoons which weighed 280 grams total, all were Gorham, from around 1900.

Another long post from me. I might run a contest some day giving out prizes to anybody who makes it to the end of one of my posts. Speaking of contests, who won the Halloween thing? What is the other Garrett forum?

Chris

PS I hit the 5000 coin mark a few days ago and today's hunt put me well on the way to 6000. I don't think my knees and fingers are going to hold out, though, and I think my year is almost at an end.
