New Garrett pro pointer or new coil???

I have about $200 maybe a little more left over after buying my new etrac. Im trying to decide either to get another coil for trashy areas or a new garrett pointer. I have a a big bulky fragile pointer I am using now, it just sucks trying to not break it. Feels like its two feet long.... I HATE IT... I dont even remember the name of it I hate it so much. But it works for now. But am really wanting the garrett. Also am wanting to get a good small coil for trashy areas... Help me out guys ..... What should I do? Also what coil should I get if I do get one? Hurry before my old lady finds out I have cash left and makes me buy stuff we need.

I'd for sure go with a pinpointer, before another coil. Garrett or SunRay are tops. If I had a choice though, I'd go with the SunRay. Look up at top of page and you should see SunRay's advertising box. I do own and use both and like the Garrett as well, but if I had to choose I'd stick with my X-1 probe.

I have the Sunray and love it! I will say I had a Garrett and they are very nice too! I just prefer the Sunray.

A good PP is the most important accessory to have.

If you have $200 thats enough to get both if you buy used from the forums.

You can easily find a Garrett for under $100 and a 6" EQ2 Excellerator coil for $100 or less. That coil has all you need for trash.

Don't buy a Sunray that has any issues described buy the seller. I was considering one that had some "chatter" but first I e-mailed Ralph at Sunray about the cost to fix it. Had I bought it and then sent it in to be fixed I would have had almost the cost of a new one into the probe.

Here is Ralphs comment:

((Thanks for the offer on the Probe but I did e-mail Ralph about it and he said without actually looking at it he can't say for sure what is wrong with it. He did say it would cost me about $115 bucks shipped back to me for him to put a new probe on it. ))

I did end up buying a used one for $175 shipped. I paid about $15 more than most sell for but I was confident that I was getting a good PP that didn't have any issues.

Good luck with your choice!

First of all congrats on the new e-trac. The good news is you have the most vital piece of equipment in your arsenal, your e-trac. I have both the Garrett pro-pointer and the sun ray probe and they are both awesome like everyone mentioned. If i was in your boat and had enough to either buy a sun ray probe or a pro-pointer and coil then I definitely would buy the pro-pointer and a coil. The pro-pointer goes deeper then the sun ray but the sun ray has discrimination, which is nice at times. The stock pro coil does a great job by itself but a smaller coil cannot be beat in trashy areas, especially when used with two tone ferrous. I have a 8x6 excellerator which works really well and have heard great things about the x-5 sun ray also. Like mentioned search the forum classifieds or e-bay and you can find some deals on used equipment. Hope this helps and HH.
