New G-2 sniffs out Civil War relics from amongst iron!

I was a bit of a skeptic. I admit it. All the talk about the G2 being good at picking goodies out of iron. So....I bought one. First place I took it was to the small Civil War Union campsite that has yielded several buttons, bullets, and a few other interesting items. I worked that place to death with my F75 LTD! I crisscrossed that place until I just KNEW I had cleaned it plumb out. The square nails at this site are SO plentiful, that finding a small place to ground balance is almost impossible. Every square inch it seems. Anyway, here's how the G2 performed this morning and this afternoon on a "cleaned out" site:

In the fourth picture is the pocket knife/ pen knife. Even though it is in bad shape, I'm proud of that find. Also proud of my first Calvary Eagle button and Eagle cuff button. The other button disintergrated when it hit air. If anyone can tell me what the item is in the third pic, I'd be grateful to ya. Thanks for looking. Kevin

Nice finds !!!! keep it up !

Nice finds way to go!
If your talking about the rectangular item in the third pic it is a harmonica reed valve. or at least that's what i think its called but its definitely from a harmonica.

Sorry I was looking at the 4th Pic.

Thanks guys, and yes Bart, I love this quiet running detector. Thanks for making me such a killer deal on it, and for the headphones and Teknetics digging tool that was in the box with the detetctor! The buttons, and most of the finds came from 5 to 7 inches deep. I was running the Disc at 45. Anything over 45 gives a VCO tone, anything lower grunts. I was running gain (sensitivity) at 85.

I love hearing about guys picking out good targets in iron with the G2 or Gold Bug. What coil did you have on it ? If it was the 11 inch, whenever you get a chance to purchase the 5 inch, do so and hit that place again and again with that coil once you have scoured it with the bigger coil.

Nice finds! I'm finding the GB to be a mean relic hunting machine.I'm new with the gb but it seems like my hunt plan will be similar to yours Use mt mxt to start with and switch too my GB to clean up on the brass and other hidden in the iron goodies. Great finds!

Nice digs!! I find that I will grab either the G2 or the GBSE before my other detectors, why go over a site twice. I have found that owning 3 MXT's in the past that the G2 or the GBSE have the same depth, insted of a Iron grunt on a button at 10" you get the full high tone VCO. Plus they are lighter than any White's that I've used......Mark

Thanks Elvis Earnhardt and the rest of the good folks that left nice comments. Went back yesterday....pulled 2 three ringers and 1 .69 roundball. Going back today even though the ground is saturated.
