New Fisher F75 arrived today! My 1st Impression ---

I'd ordered the new Fisher last week and it arrived today. No surprises really other than the battery compartment. Although it uses 4 AA batteries, Fisher opted to creat a potential problem IMO with the way the batteries are inserted and held in place precariously perched atop 4 very flimsy looking springs. If you have one of these units, you must know what I'm talking about. One word of caution; don't be successfully tempted to remove the foam patches behind the back two batteries. Doing so will result in the batteries being able to shift around. :)

I came back to add, I was also a little surprised at the "small-ness" of the grip. I'm not a big guy and my hands are not that large but the grip sure feels "small" in my hand. I opted to go ahead and install a Wilson racket grip material right over the foam. Problem solved! The Fisher now "feels" like a really neat machine. (hint) Install the material without removing the adhering tape so you can better judge how the material should fit the grip before your final installation. Once in place, there's no removing the tape.

I like the simplicity of the new F75 unit and plan on hunting with it tomorrow. I'm anxious to compare it to my Explorer SE and Tesoro Cortes. Does anyone know if SunRay make an attachable probe for this unit?

Thanks!

Well that is like comparing the turtle and the hair. The f75 does very well in heavy trash with it's super fast recovery but is really hard to use where you have any type of electrical things in operation (power lines, transformers, cell towers, your cellphone and even a hand held pin pointer like the vibra probe). IMHO it is a good addition but certainly not a replacement for the Explorer & you might want to add arm cup strap

Hello Erikk!
I'm not so sure; the Fisher does everything so far the SE can do and is much lighter and user friendly. I actually got to test the F75 for a few minutes yesterday at a local park before the rains came. My problem is the availability of optional coils and pinpointers. SunRay doesn't make a probe yet for the F75; hopefully that will change in the near future.

You mentioned the arm support bracket; you are so correct! I don't like how my arm moves around between the uprights. I don't like straps however. I think an improved design should "clamp" on.

I am not saying is isn't a good detector I am just saying that when you get in some areas (urban) you are going to run into problems with stability due to electrical interference. With my EX2 I can go to noise cancel and work right under 230 lines and have no problems. I also used a vibra probe before I got the Sun Ray and didn't get any static in my headphones. A Sun Ray probe would be great and if one becomes available I will get one immediately

I keep reading this stuff about electrical interference and after 2 1/2 months of hunting almost daily (retired) with the f75 on several sites with powerlines along and criss crossing, I have yet to experience any interference problems. And one of the sites I regularly frequent is next to a large Naval base that seemingly would have a lot of potential for electrical interference. As far as the arm rest cup, that can be squeezed to fit tighter as need be. HH jim tn

You're in luck. The uprights are aluminum, not plastic. Bend them inward, or use a block/dowel/broomhandle and bend only the outer angle inward. You can clamp it on your arm so as to prevent circulation if you like.

Probably don't want to do it too often, but it can be "customized" pretty easily.

Golden boy, be careful out there. Didn't your doctor prohibit you from metal detecting? Don't overdo it ole boy.
