New Finds and New Observations from the Old Swimming Hole

I returned to the site where I found the silver coins and the gold crucifix a few weeks back. I wanted to try a different spot at the site. I ground balanced and my first signal was a little jumpy junk signal jumping around in the 30's at four inches. I dug down and hit a thick root. I dug under it as best I could, wishing I had a trowel instead of a relic shovel. I was also wishing I had my gloves (which I did not realize were in my pocket the whole time) as I probed with my finger under the root to find what I thought would be a pull tab or some other type of scrap metal. I was very surprised when I pulled out the gold men's ring!

That was it for a while, but I did manage a few beach tags and one "Valuables" tag. I also found a gold plated Victorian era ring.

I was running with the RX gain at 12,my Disc Sens at 94, and my All Metal at 74, with my filter set a 10Hz High Pass and my recovery at 90, when I came across a penny spill. I noticed that the coins were breaking up at around 4 inches and heard a hum from the All Metal in the same area. Only when I sped up the sweep speed and scrubbed the ground with the coil did I get a broken penny signal at 5.5 inches. I thought it was odd that it did not sound crisper, so I raised my RX up to 15. I rebalanced and now the pennies were sounding good at 6 inches.

From what I had read in the past, as you get toward the higher numbers with the RX gain, the impact that it has on depth should be minimal, but from my own observation, I can see that the RX Gain still has a HUGE impact on depth, even at the higher levels.

It seems to me that the V3i is a little more tame than the V3 was, and to get more depth after this point, the only option would be the TX Boost. I will try this on my next outing.
