HI I HAD A QUICK QUESTION.. IF IM HUNTING COINS WHAT MODE DO I NEED TO HUNT IN ? AND IF IM HUNTING RELICS WHAT MODE DO I NEED TO BE IN? ALRIGHT GO...

Hey iebrandon! Welcome to the Forum! Let me say as Togg did, the real experts on that rig will be along shortly...in an effort to help them best guide you, please provide a bit more detail as to your location, experience in this Sport etc...example:

"Hey everybody! I live in Bessemer Alabama, I'm 16yrs old, just got a F 75 for Christmas and this is my first detector! I'm stoked! As you know, Bessemer was founded in the 1800's with the intent of becoming a major player in the production of steel. Lotsa coal and lotsa iron ore in the area. The Bessemer smelting process made this location a viable contender. That being said, the dirt here is very hot. I want to find old silver coins, and I also want to hunt CW relics when possible".......Or maybe this:

"Hey guys, Ive been hunting for 30 years with multiple rigs, i'm 67yrs old so I know all the basics and have found a heap of coins, just picked up a 75Ltd...I live in Otumwa Iowa, all I need is a few key generic 'go to' settings to work silver coins in the deep loam, with an occasional Relic hunt thrown in"...

See? two entirely different situations for the Xperts to address...so do a bit more of a detailed info dump so the Brothers can help you.... Its too hard to give you the correct answer without knowing the backstory about yourself and your area....just trying to narrow it down to get you off on a successful experience is all, plus, its a nice introduction for you to make here...

These F75 fellows have spent a great amount of time learning what you ask...so you cant expect much help from a drive by hit like this....anymore than a stranger with out of state tags asking the locals at the boatramp about the local fishing hotspots or lures to use etc... do a great post, and I bet you get some help!.....:please:

You might want to use All Metal for relics and Discriminate in either Default or Jewelry mode for coins. From there you can play around with other processes as suits you.

PS - as noted above a little more detail about conditions of where you are searching would help.

I will take a stab at this....

It isn't set up like and ACE 250 to give you separate coin or relic modes

When you turn the Unit on doing the factory reset you are in Discrimination Mode but the Discrimination is set at zero and two tone.......... so you will pick up a grunt on any iron and a higher tone for all other high conductors that can be foil, tin, aluminum, gold, silver and lead.

If you want a separate tone for silver or clad coins set the tones to 3, 3H or 4H - the higher tone will be coin like items.

If you are tired of hearing iron use 1N tone and it masks the iron tone but all other higher conductors will be monotone so you have to watch the ID numbers to judge if they are a coin. A lone coin in clean ground - Nickels ring in at 29, dimes or Copper ring in at 70 to 74 and quarters from 80 to 88 as a general rule. Trash near the coin can modify the numbers a bit. What you are looking for is a number in that range that will repeat at all angles you swing. Bottle caps may imitate quarters but if you leave the iron tone on, you can make it grunt by bobbing the coil over the target. you will get a iron grunt or the numbers start to fall. Coins will remain constant.

Another way to mask Iron in Discrimination mode is to raise the setting of Zero to 15 to eliminate Iron or to 23 to eliminate foil but that can remove gold too. Over 27 you eliminate nickels.

All metal mode picks up all metal.....

Not sure what you consider a relic you might be looking. Lead is in the 50's for the ID number I think.

Numbers in the 90's can be big coins like 50 cents or a dollar but can also be Iron imitating silver.

Brandon, Glad to see you in my neck of the woods with your new 75.
Now mind you I don't have my ltd2 yet she's supposed to be delivered sometime today. But I have an obscene amount of hours on the 75 standard and for most general searching use DE process ( default) in 3 tone with my Disc set between 0 and 4, in DE with a disc setting lower then 5 and higher then I think its 18, the F75 goes into a more sensitive mode and that is useful and used to be site dependant. That maybe a moot point with the DST feature.

Relic hunting is straight forward, if its not ferrous. Give it a chance to be a great target. Chuck hit the nail on the head with the targets number he mentioned. They can vary by a couple numbers from one machine to the other or with other variables.
Also rings. Gold in particular like to lock onto one or two numbers and stay put, last two I dug were 10k, 1 locked on like a bulldog to 21 the other was a nickel signal only moving between 29-30.

Good luck out there and be sure to keep us updated,

Lakota

I have had 2 of the std F75's and 2 of the LTD's, the LTD I have now was just upgraded and I will be learning for as long as I can hunt. You never know when somebody will pass along a little nugget of info that will help your hunting.

I am not a relic hunter so I will say nothing along that line.

For coins in general you may want to start off in one of 2 ways.
First if you don't care a lot about nickels and zinc pennies, I would go with processor DE or BP, set the disc at max 65, tones at 1 or 1F, sensitivity at about 60, DST on or off, ground balance the machine and start hunting.
The next way would be again DE or BP processor, run the disc down low about 25 should get the nickels, tones at 3H this way the nickels will come in high tone along with the other coins, sensitivity at about 60, DST on or off, ground balance and hunt. Just a note about tone setting 3H, the zinc pennies will give you a mid range tone.

My favorite processor is BP (boost) I like the slower sweep speed and I get really good depth. I haven't had a chance to hunt much with the new FA processor, but want to give it a good work out in some trashy areas and see if I can pull out some of the silver that I know is still there.

When you dig, make sure you fill in your holes, try to leave no sign of you being there.

Wow--glad iebrandon asked his question--I picked up some excellent info from several Xspurts.lol---keep it comin'!!!

There's only one way to hunt coins, BP mode, 0 discrimination, 99 sensitivity in 3H mode!!! :super:

Well at least that's the way I like to do it, but you migh want to start off with the lower settings others are suggesting to learn the machine first :)

NICE Brandon, I have not played with the FA yet, Played with the BP wide open and scored a Shield nickel this evening. No date yet, but I think I may have spotted an ?86?, should that be the case its my new oldest coin and I couldn't be happier for my second hole with the new 75

Good luck to you all,

Sweet! Congrats on that silver!:clapping:

Theres a poster guy named Junior I think lives down that way...you really are in some old reliccy and coiny spot there! Did you ever get up into the hills for nuggets? Or hunt some old water crossings up by Chat, or possibly Mentone with your Pro? I get through there from time to time on business...thats some tough cherty clay soil you are working..:clapping: Great to have you here!
