New F70 Impressions

I just received my F70 tonight and I don't know what all the fuss is about build quality. The only thing I saw that made me scratch my head, was the battery compartment and the fact that it has foam inserts in the bottom, designed to take up space and snug up the batteries. And, there is no build diagram in the manual or even a parts list with sketches. Its like they assume you already know how to put together a metal detector. Fisher might want to put some thought into what they need for the new to detecting segment that might buy their machines.

Otherwise, everything locks smoothly and surely on the unit I received. I started playing with it in the backyard and its real promising. The small buckle I have buried as a test at 11" in my moderate/borderline bad ground is hard for my MXT to detect and would probably fool me under normal field conditions. With this machine if you switch over into the slow mode it picks it up and you're sure there is something there. So, if you're trying to locate a CW or Colonial site it would be fine to start in the de mode and once you start locating stuff, switch over to the SL (slow) mode and slow down your search. I'm really excited about using this machine in areas that have been deemed as hunted out.

Now thats very interesting. It appears the F-70 might well give the MXT and X-70 a run for the money!
And the F-70 is cheaper too, not to mention much lighter than the MXT! Fisher may have done something right.

In my area of the world..I have owned a terra 70, 50, and MXt and an F75..The F75 is way deeper and way faster on target responses..The only advantage the Xterra 70 may have is a salt water beach ( dedicated beach Mode)..Fisher says F75 not designed for beach hunting, but it can be used...and it ground balances out salt..So even the Xterras beach mode may not be better..both have all metal..but F75 has static mode and thats like having super power..If the 70 has most F75 features it's then in my humble opinion better. Based on my usage of xterras, Mxt, and F75..and the F70 format is just a simplified F75 the F70 should come out on top for depth, response, and good solid finds...Again thats my opinion..So take it as such, and not Gospel....I can't base it on anything other than the F75 performance.. But please keep in mind they have a lot in common..F75/F70....

If you think about it.................
Minelab from the top....Xterra 70....Xterra 50......Xterra30
Fisher from the top.....F-75.........F-70........F-5

Both line ups have decending features that one can choose which they don't need, Just a comparison, pick your weapon:starwars:

Having used one for coins, its GREAT. I have not used the F-70, but if it can
outperform the MXT, forget the price[I know the F-70 is cheaper] its a MONSTER.:fisher::detecting:
[The only thing distracting I've read is that it used a touchpad instead of a trigger.]

You quickly get used to using a touchpad though. The only thing that I'm having to get used to is getting all the different functions to sing together in harmony. Somebody is gonna need to write a book about Fisher's F-Series detectors. To me they are definitely different than a lot of what is out there.
